Battlefield 4 crashing issues for ps3

Battlefield 4 is forever crashing on my ps3 during multiplayer.

Every single time I have to resort  to doing a hard reset on my ps3, and everytime the ps3 scans the hdd for bad sectors. As it has a 500gb hdd it can take almost an hour on some occasions.

Any suggestions ??

P.S: when/if I add an xp boost it is almost certain to crash within 2 rounds.

Is it a Phat or middle-generation slim?  If it's a super slim I've never worked on one of those so some of the info below might not be good.

    Have you tried safe mode:

    Option 3  Restore File System

    Option 4  Rebuild Database

Does it do it to any other game you've played recently?  Does it only do it in multiplayer?

It could be the BluRay laser... I've replaced about a dozen for people.  Both of my PS3's I had put new lasers in... and one died again, just use it for digital or I suppose "used" very lightly used... I'm a magnet for free things that don't work... and I cannot pass up a 20$ broken system... The ones I've seen do it usually straight out fail... depending on the model some had two lenses (DVD and BluRay) while others were combinations.

You could take your HD out, put it in your computer and use something like SeaTools to see if it has any errors... it'll read it's SMART then gives the option for Short or Long tests.

You could completely reformat the HD from safe mode and start over.. back up your saves and stuff.. downloads will take awhile though if you have a lot of digital games ☹️

Is it in an open area where it can breathe?  Is it older so has build up of dust?

I really dislike the cooling system on the PS3 at stock or rather I dislike how fast they spin the fans at temps... I think it lets it burn... I put voltagage control knob on the fan and take the snippers to all that plastic I don't like on the inside.

** I have temp guns and special tools/software for testing such things.. I'm not pulling it out of my butt**  I'm a nut about cooling.... I'm the guy who thermal glues chipset heatsinks on any chip I can find... in the PS3's cases I use thermal pads that contact the mobo's casing.

Sorry for writing you a book... most of it is probably not useful to you.. especially if it's ONLY BF4 multiplayer doing it.  Other wise my money would be on HD or BluRay lens.

    Good luck.

  • On PS3 there are a few things that may help:

    1.  hard wire your console into the router

    2.  turn off the PS3 media server - this allows other devices to log into the PS3 to access media and is a resource hog

    3.  Rebuild your PS3 Database - this seems to be a silver bullet solving most PS3 freezing and crashing problems (don't worry you won't lose any data) as described here:  http://www.ps3blog.net/2011/01/28/tips-and-tricks-ps3-rebuild-database-faq-recovery-menu/

    4.  Ensure that your console HDD isn't almost full

    5.  Make sure that your console is clean and dust free in an open space - heat makes computers (and consoles) run slower.

    6.  coordinate with your family members\roommates to ensure nobody is using too much bandwidth while you play online.

    Hi
I will try and answer alk your queries.
    I have a 4month old 500gb hdd superslim ps3.
I have done the restore and rebuild of the database.
It is the only game that does it and only on multiplayer, single player campaign works great.
The game is NOT on disc, It is the digital copy, as is all my games purchased from sony p.s.n.
It is well ventilated, and It sits on a good quality laptop cooling slate which has 3 fans.
My internet is fibre optic broadband, my modem is a Netgear superhub with 11 channels, and It runs at 76 mbps on a good day, and 45 mbps on a bad day.
It has a high bandwidth and It had been optimised for gaming.
I hope this is enough info for you and I hope you can point out a cause/problem, im stumped.
Thanks for the quick in depth reply, it is appreciated.
    Cheers.
