Battlefield 4 freezing

Okey, so heres the deal...

So i recently built my first gaming pc, with some cuite good specs, following;

64 Bit Windows 7 Ultimate

Intel core i7 4790k @ 4.0ghz

Asus Rog Maximus Hero VII

Asus GeForce 780 3GB GDDR5

16GB RAM G.Skill Ares

Corsair RM750

NZXT H440 Quiet Edition

Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Kingston SSD NOW V300 120GB

So my broblem is at the title says, BF4 just freezes after a couple of minutes of playing. The screen freezes and an irritating high-pitch "buzz" is all i can hear from my headphones. When the freeze happens, the PC also stops responding, and all i have as an option is to hard-reboot. Running in windowed mode doesent seem to help either, as sometimes the game freezes and it is posseble to force it to close via task manager, or it just freezes just like when in fullscreen. The freezing both accour when in single-player and in multi-player, with about 5 minutes of fully smooth gameplay followed by the freeze.

At luanch of the game, it starts up just as it shoulds. I have a solid 90-130 FPS whan having the presets set to medium. I follow up by the opening scenes, and the total playtime before the game completly freezes is about 3-6 minutes. I have trided numerous times with different settings, and came to a conclusion that i dont even have to be in-game before the game freezes. I can simply just start the game and let it run in main menu, and then after about 5 minutes it crashes. I have despretly been trying different soulutions for this problem, with no working solutions. i have;

Reinstalled the game, both in different locations on my hard drive and on the original install directionary

Reinstalled Windows, and also performed repairs of it

Updatet ALL (and i mean all) off the drivers, both for GPU, mobo, programs like DirectX, Visuals C++ and the .NET framework

Tried to play the game both updated with updates and  patches installed, and from stock version, with origin in offline-mode, causing it unable to update the game.

I also have to mention that i have tried both installing OS and the game on both harddrives, both seperatly and on the same ones, meaning;

HDD - OS and BF4

SSD - OS and BF4

and

HDD - OS, SSD - BF4

HDD - BF4, SSD - OS

This because rumors have said that the V300 model SSD isent working properly, and that just adding a SSD to your rig could cause theese problems.

I have at the moment unplugged the SSD and am now rinning both OS and BF4 on my hard drive, but are still having theese problems.
Because BF4 is my mainly game this is an very serious problem for me, and i have been stuck with my rig unable to play for 6 days now, and this problem i starting to getting to the edge of me and is driving me crazy.

It also seems like i am the only one getting this problem without finding a working solution, i have checkt many guides on how to troubleshooting this problem, but nothing seems to work.

I am realy grateful to anyone thet spares some time to help a poor fella in need 🙂

  • Awww na just a brain fart and we all get them more so when a very nice custom rig is not working correct in BF4. Same issue I had for a very long time with this game with win 7 and then win 8.1. My PC never acted up until I was in BF4 and in the end it was a windows issue so trust me when I say I fully understand how you feel. My Rig specs ....

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
    M/B ASUS Maximus V1 Hero
    Memory - 32 GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866MHZ
    Win 8.1 64bit
power supply  HX 1000W Modular power supply
    Video Card - GTX690
    Monitor - Samsung MD230X3 Screen resolution 5760 X 1080
    Case - Antec Twelve Hundred
    Intel ssd x3

Dont reinstall windows again even if the scan finds issues in your windows just reboot and run scan again. If it cant repair lets look at win 7 repair first before a format I am going to try and save you a format if we can. But lets cross that bridge when/if we come to it.

I have a whole post on how to fix BF4 when everything else has failed to fully fix it and since I did all my steps and steps I got from others I now have zero issues in BF4 so no worries we can get this fixed your Rig is nice BTW :} If I am not kicking and your working on this then this is my post on how I did it.

  • I had that same problem with my Alienware rig after a year of play. It turned out that the PCI-E slot in my MOBO went bad. I replaced the MOBO and GPU and it works normally. You might want to see if you can run tests on your Hardware to rule out a hardware failure like I had.

Have you ever checked your windows for errors its worth a shot if its not a hardware issue. As well as off chance this could help ..... when you removed BF4 did you kill the BF4 folder in my Documents? I will post steps for both I hope this can help you if its not hardware.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BF4 folder in my documents holds game configs and screen shots even if BF4 is installed on different drive. When you uninstall BF4 it does NOT remove this folder. So when you install the game again you can still have the same issues.

1- Go to my Documents and remove BF4 folder place it on your Desktop or trash.
2- Be warned you do have to set up your in game settings again.
    3-Repair BF4
4- When done go test your game.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Test your windows for errors
This works in all windows O/S vista win 7,8 and 8.1 windows system file checker :]

...... sfc /scannow ..... ever hear of it if not your going to love this .... it will inspect all the important windows files as well as the windows DLL files. If windows system file checker finds any issues with the windows files and windows DLL files it will replace them. This little tool as well as the event viewer saved me and fully helped me fix my BF4 issues as well as saved my .... many a format since I found it. This is the best toy they ever put in windows :]

1 - Open administrator command prompt and close web pages and programs like origin.

2 - Type or copy and paste in sfc /scannow and hit enter, This takes 5 min to 15 min SSD vs HD

3 - This can go one of a few ways ..... no errors ... it fixed some errors ..... could not fix all errors...... does not finish checking and errors out ....... and the last one could not fix errors at all :/

4 -After its done reboot and do it again even if you had no errors the first time or had errors, could not fix ... run sfc /scannow again and when its done a second time reboot. You need to do this a and get no errors 2 x in a row ...

5- So if you ran it 2x and no errors your safe you can stop now for now lol, If you had errors first time but not the second then run sfc /scannow again and when its done reboot. You need to get could not find any errors 2 x to be safe. If it still finds errors try and run it a few more times until it finds no errors 2x AND ALWAYS REBOOT BETWEEN RUNNING sfc /scannow

6 - If you get a message indicating that it can not be repaired and you ran sfc /scannow more then 3x in a row on win vista or 7 mm you need a format :/ But after format and all updates are done run sfc /scannow to make sure your windows is stable same deal 2x error free reboot between, then If your O/S is Win8 or Win 8,1 then you can run this next command / line in administrator command prompt. Sadly this does not work for win vista or 7 :/ It will restore the health of your PC and you dont lose anything

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ------- ONLY works for windows 8 and 8.1

7 - When its done reboot

I am currently repairing Battlefield and will try to play the game after that. I tried the sfc /scannow but somehow a window opened and clossed again after a split second. I thaught that was very wierd and tried several times again, with the same resoult. I dont know why i tont work or if iáim missing something,  i have no idea. When googling System File Checker for windows 7 repair/download i only got tutorials on how to use them, and only downloadable files from unsecure sites like softonic.com... So im cuite stuck here, any tips why it possibly couldent work?

As far as replacing my PCI-Eslot, because it recuires hardware-integration, ill take that as an last option. Mi computer can easily run other games like Fallout on ultra settings with an FPS around 50-80, and battlefield works perfectly until it craches. But if nothing else helsp ill try that solution too. Thanks for the answers, ill be in touch

    Okay, i´m a retard...

    Used "Run" instead of "cmd"...

I tried to use run sfc /scannow on my laptop and was confused why it dident work, then i realised i used run the wole time. I will try your method when i get home again tomorrow, and ill be sure to sheck back when it´s finished. I realy hope that this might be the cause of my problems, i realy wish to pun an end to my missery with having to reinstall windows several times a day just to test if the god damn game works... It realy sucks have spent about 2.5k on a gaming rig that doesent work... Worst feeling in the world i tell you...

    But thanks in forehand :D
