One problem I noticed with BF3 is in the way the symbols that float above people's heads interact with eachother and with other on screen "floating element" like the flag indicators that tell you who has what base and where that base is relative to you or or blue/yellow icons over friendly heads.
I've noticed at times in the past if an enemy is in your field of vision and is standing directly in front of the spot where the base flag symbol is floating on your screen then the enemy can look like he has a blue symbol over his head and you hesitate in trying to kill him and he gets you first. Or it could be that he is standing such that your squad mates yellow overhead symbol (say your squadmate is 100 feet away in a different room) looks like its over the enemies head and you also get "tricked" in this situation and get killed because of poor recognition of the enemy's presence fast enough. This can also happen with blue overhead marks too from other friendlies.
My suggestion to the devs would be that in the above scenarios the game "knew" to brighten up the enemies red name plate and make it larger while dampening the vibrancy of the flag nameplate or friendly nameplate so that you can quickly identify the enemy with no hesitation when these nameplates and flag plates happened to be on top of each other.
