Those of you having the debilitating audio/freeze/DirectX crashes/startup crashes should try these fixes below. Like many of you, since a month ago, I couldn't play multiplayer let alone even struggling with campaign and at test range. But after applying these fixes, my problems have improved with less crashes although the game continues to crash with the dreaded BF4 has stopped working crash.
For instance, on maps like Shanghai and Dawnbreaker, I have crashed on many occasions on Shanghai when the building comes down. Similar crashes on Dawnbreaker. I also experienced server crashes which on one occasion, led to my loadout to be completely reverted to vanilla settings. However the game is somehow playable now than before. The rest is really up to EA/DICE to sort the messy Bugfield 4 out.
. Updated my motherboard BIOS. Go for the latest version instead of incremental updates. Proceed with care and do not interrupt the update process because update failure will cause serious problems. Google 'updating motherboard BIOS' for details and instructions.
. Update to latest graphic drivers
. Install BF4 Settings Editor (those of you who crash even during loading will find this very useful)
. Control Panel | Device Manager | Sound/Disable Nvidia HD audio or other non-onboard sound drivers
. NVidia Control Panel | Configure Surround, PhysX | Set PhsyX to your GPU (in my case GTX 660 Ti)
. Sound Control Panel | Speakers| 16bit 48000hz DVD quality (Ireverted to default settings and so far no problems. I suggest you keep to this suggested fix until your game is stabilised)
. Game Display Settings | Borderless
. Game Display Settings | Vsync On
. Low/Medium Graphics, no AA/post disable (if you have beefier card, you might to try High. But as a baseline, you should try low/medium first)
. Game Audio | Hifi/Stereo or Wartapes
. Repair install the game if needed
. Reinstalling/updating PunkBuster
. Disabling Origin in game
. Disable antivirus or any other background processes
. Set BF4 game to High Priority in Task Manager (optional)
Good luck and see you in the Battlefield. (Battlelog: Tweenkiss)

this tweenkiss is just a repost of a fix (THAT DOESNT WORK) from about 5 pages ago,so no fix from EA or DICE themselves.it doesnt fix the BF4 HAS STOPPED RESPONDING.

Admittedly, it is a repost but it's for the benefit from the inconvenience of scrolling each thread page to look for solutions especially for those seeking a quick answer or fix. Also I do acknowledge that the fixes that I have compiled have not prevented the 'BF4 has stopped responding/working crash'. I do from time to time experience these crashes and there is none I can do except wait for EA/DICE to solve these bugs.
However, it is not my intention to bump this thread needlessly but only wanting to help those unable to play like I did a month ago. At the very least, now I could play with less crashes with these fixes.
