I have the GeForce GTX 760 (more specifically the PNY VCGGTX7602XPB-OC), and I had been having the "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG" error for around a year, but I finally found a way to stop it. I had to download EVGA PrecisionX 16 and used it to underclock the video card by -50Hz, and I typically also drop the desired temp for the card to 78 degrees C (which also lowers the max power consumption). After doing this, the game no longer crashes with this error. I have played 5-6 times so far while doing this without a single crash. It's ridiculous that I have to do this to avoid crashes, but at least it stopped them. Hope this helps someone else.
Edit 8-13-2015: I have not experienced a single crash since underclocking the video card before playing. So this definitely fixed the crash for me.
Thank you for the information that is useful. I've come to the same conclusion that my overclocking is a problem but as it work OK for months before getting the DirectX errors then finally "BF4 stopped working" I'm sending it back for repair. I suspect they will say there is nothing wrong but I don't see why I should replace a card that cost nearly £300 12 months ago and why should I underclock a factory overclocked card?
