Battlefield 4 keeps crashing/freezing my pc

Hey guys, so I recently purchased Battlefield 4 in prep for BF1 on my pc. For the first month and a bit the game ran just fine, no issues other than my aim! Then my laptop got serviced and i had to re-download everything, so i got origin, got BF4 and all my other things and was super excited to play again. However; ever since that moment my entire laptop decides to freeze during or just after loading the map.

What happens is I ask to join a server, that little blue bar says joining server...bla bla and as soon as I open the actual game (the black screen with that flickering white bar at the top corner) my pc freezes... completely. Other times i can wait for the map to load and when that blue bar says "playing battlefield 4" or whatever i can then get into the game and play about a minute before my pc freezes again.

I've re-downloaded bf4, punkbuster, geforce experience and all kinds of stuff but still not working. All other games run just fine!

My laptop specs

970M

i7 5700hq

16GB RAM

If anyone can help, please do and ask if i need to give any more info on the issue, not really sure what to do

  • Hello @MysteryHamburger

At first, try to delete folder settings of bf4 C:\Users\[User_name]\Documents\Battlefield 4\ and don't change ingame video options such as 'API graphics" - use DX11, and "Display mode" - use Full screen

  • Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately I've done this before (trust me I've done a lot) and decided to try again now. Tried to get onto the test range and... my PC froze. Is there anything else that could be doing this.

Please, give to us txt file of dxdiag.

Also run command prompt as Admin then enter a commands and attach list.txt file from root folder of C drive to a message
    set > C:\list.txt
    tasklist /v >> C:\list.txt

  • screenshots from dxdiag, might need to zoom in a bit

Can you also explain last part, kinda confused

try to update drivers on my way 🙂:

    - download dxwesetup and run/install it as Admin

    - download chipset drivers and run/install as Admin, restart PC

    - uninstall Intel GPU driver, restart PC, download Beta_15.40.26.64.4474.zip, unzip all and run/install it as Admin, restart PC

    - uninstall Nvidia GPU driver, restart pc, install this version as Admin with "clean install" option, restart PC

    - check that game use the Nvidia GPU

    - check and close\disable all programs like this

    - run Origin as Admin, try to play...

  • Thank you so much, this is the only fix that worked for me! Can finally get back into things.
