Battlefield 4/ PS4 why it won’t pass this screen

The app launches then it stays stuck in the rain for aprox 2 sec with the battlefield theme playing. But then I get the black screen right before the game start with the dash on the top right corner— moving up and down and won’t pass that section, please help!! It works fine in my nephews console.

  • Hi @Matadora187 ,

It looks like you have run into a data error on your saved data files on your PS4/5 harddrive.

First thing to try is if just reloading the cached game data files will resolve your problem.  On the PS4/5 you have a certain data storage space used for temporary caching of game specific data.  And depending on your actions and also power cuts, internet line drops or simply just 'memory leakage' in the game you play, then unfortunately these cached data files can get corrupted over time.  And this leads to things like freezes, game loading errors, connectivity issues or missing or malfunctioning game features/menus.

So from time to time, it is good 'housecleaning practice' to delete those cached game data segments, as it forces the game to reset and clear them on next game start.  Please Note: Performing this troubleshooting step will not hinder your ability to play or use any saved data/progress you have made with your soldier in the game.  So your BF4 soldier is safe and will keep its XP and unlocks etc.   It may however reset to default any customization that you have made on aka your soldier's sensitivity, hitmarker settings, ADS zoom settings etc.

How to reset your BF4 cached game data on your PS4:

    1. Open the Settings menu at the top of the homepage.
    2. Select Storage, then select System Storage.
    3. Select Saved Data.
    4. Choose the BF4 game from the list to access the game's saved data.
    5. Press the Options button and select Delete.

This will most often suffice to bringing back all the intended menu functions/graphics/loading of the BF4 game on your PS4/5.

If this still does not solve your problem, then last option is to first delete and the reinstall the game on your PS4/5.  More work of course, but again, your soldier and all your progress with it will still be kept safe, as this is stored on EA's central player registry servers.

    Best of luck with it!

@Matadora187 you can check if that console where it's not working on is set as your Primary PS4 or not.

Maybe that can also effects certain games if it's not your primary one.

Not sure tho, just as guess. 🙂

Hi Travis, I can confirm that both PS4/5 works fine for BF4 no matter if the console is set as your primary console or not.

Of course a valid PSN subscription needs to be present for the MP environment, but even if it is not, then you dont get that type of hanging error as @Matadora187 experiences.  You actually get a nice clean error message on your PSN subscription is not active, if that was the case.  Or that you do not have a primary account owner assigned to the console.  And as you know, you can still  start the BF4 app perfectly fine and also play aka the Campaign without going online with PSN/EA.

  • I will try both. I got the console from my nephew who no longer uses it. I don’t believe it is set as my primary. Thank you both for your input.

I did get this error message after many attempts.

@Matadora187 So that i get this right, you tried to login with the same PSN account on two PS4's and on one the game starts and on one it doesn't?

    Hi @Matadora187 ,

You refer to an error message that you got, but think you didn't manage to post the screenshot please of that error message?

From the symptoms alone, then there are two options for what potentially needs a little tweaking for you to fix that error situation:

    1. The error is caused by corrupted local data files on your PS4, which can be fixed by doing the reset of the cached memory files, as I described the steps for above.
    2. The error is caused by a bugged server player list buffer.  This will typically result in the player getting a message saying like 'Error 1..." when tryin to join a given server.  This unfortunately takes that you get in contact with the server owner, who needs to reset the server before you will be able to join it again.  At times, you will not get any error message at all, in this bugged situation.  Your PS4 will simply just keep hanging in this error situation with the cursor flashing in the top right corner.

Let us know how it goes!
