Battlefield Vietnam mouse look and general game modifications

Hi, I'm jimmy

unfortunately talking to EA directly turns to be useless for many cases, so I have turned to the public for assistance.

recently I got back into Vietnam but quickly remembered some of the reasons I disliked it in the first place.

below is a list of things I want to modify or change to improve gameplay, I have experimented with a lot of these things in the game files, which I'm told is a dangerous place to be for battlefields strict programing but I am simply to uneducated to fix these issues myself.

1. removing window textures from helicopters, (I use cockpit view a lot and on some maps, the window makes aiming extremely difficult, I assume this would require modifying the models, and if that is the case, don't worry about this one, but if it can be done in game files or programed, let me know.

2. mouse look, I hate the fact when mouse look is activated (left shift) the controls just die, in many cases, this has caused me to crash or loose control. not only would I like to remove this issue, but also have left shift toggle mouse look and instead of using the mouse, using the arrows, I know this one might sound a bit odd to most of you, but I would use it all the time if given the chance.

3. camera positions, I frequently fly backwards, either to get away from an enemy, or sometimes for fun. this means I'm constantly switching cameras to avoid the ground. would there be a way to have a fixed reverse camera, as the current reverse camera (when flying backwards) swaps to become chase, and chase becomes front, this is annoying and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if you have any info about how to make these things possible, I thankyou in advance

when it comes to game files I have minimal experience with modifying them (custom resolutions, fov, graphics, etc.)

Thanks....Jim

  • Hello @Jimmyking19,

Unfortunately, almost all of this feature to be changed you will need to alter game files, which I would highly discourage. Battlefield Vietnam is a great game, but it's very old, getting used to some of the controls and features will take time.

  • Thanks for replying @danisoff  sorry for the long wait.

i do have some good experience with game files, fov and just about everything else and even modifying vehicles and maps, but this stuff is just something i cant work out and have spent months on.

and i am aware of the dangers that come with editing game files (due to vietnams strict programming), thats fine.

lets swap to hypothetical terms and just see if its possible to start.

would you happen to know how? or anyone you know with some really advanced experience

    @Jimmyking19,

Unfortunately I do not know, I played a lot of Battlefield Vietnam back in 2005 when I was a lot younger. All of the modifications were done by my friends, I just remember that it was a pain to mod. Your best chances are finding players on Discord servers that still play Battlefield Vietnam, nothing much else I can tell you.

    Best regards,
