Battlefield Vietnam Support

Hello EA staff & community,

I'm reaching out in a bid to revive this old game. I come from an ex clan that supported and now myself personally manage a dedicated server for Battlefield Vietnam (this is not advertising I promise), the point behind saying that is - I have gained a lot of experience with this old game. From troubleshooting client side issues running the game to server side attacks by disgruntled players.

Myself and at least two others I know of in the BFV server world have this knowledge. We keep doing it, keep it up and running for the players to find and enjoy this old game with fellow players.

It's becoming increasingly difficult though for people who still have yet to play this game.

Is it old? Yes, it's very old but it has aged so well. So much so in fact that persons aged 16+ have approached all of us to try and help them find a copy of the game. EA, to my knowledge, has not provided support in the sense of distributing the game again either via third party sellers or via their own platforms.

Is this by any chance going to change? I fully realize this game is extremely old and likely not viewable as an asset anymore, but it's like a second home to a lot of us in this community. Getting their games to run on windows is not the problem, getting their actual games is the problem.

If I had to tell you that, very recently, a gentleman aged 68 approached me to assist him with his game and is currently an active player amongst our communities, would this surprise you at all? He had left the game when gamespy went down and believed BFV to be dead in the water in regard to online play. That was until he one day came across a few sites making mention of active BFV communities. I've come across a few of the elder players who've come back to enjoy this game. It surprises both me and them at the same time.

The other problem is setting up a way for all the servers to be visible in the in-game browsers again, there is some alternative(s) in that aspect but they involve editing files that would need to be shared with clients.

Most often I am told by a client that they did not see servers in the in-game browser and believed there to be no servers at all, until they searched google with no mercy and came across either our links or another communities links where they could get support for the game.

Every time we've gained someone through this method, I've showed them just how many servers are still in existence and more often than not they're taken aback at how these communities have been right under their nose this entire time. There are 14 dedicated servers still in existence. Though, the bulk of the community, this may not sound like a resounding number but all together there is at least 40 active players when enough arrangement is made. There would be far more, but myself and the other's have had to turn possible players away since we weren't able to assist them in finding an legal Battlefield Vietnam game disc set.

Battlefield Vietnam is still enjoyed to this day, 15 years later after it's initial release, by both young and old players. That has to be worth something...

So EA, could we perhaps work on this? It would be greatly appreciated, not only by me, but the entirety of the Battlefield Vietnam community.

Regards

Ronin

  • Battlefield 1942 was once released for free on Origin, although it kind of ruined the game a little bit, as the people from Origin couldn't play with actual CD players untill a community patch was released.

Also the origin version dont have the DLCs which made the game even better. I am not aware of any DLCs for BF Vietnam, but when i got my copy it came with an extra CD with BF1942 mod.

Still waiting for EA to make available the BF1942 DLCs with a few other legacy games as well.

  • @Lunelli_98 There's no such thing as DLC for 1942...

They're called expansion packs. There was 2 of them, Road to Rome which came with the Deluxe Edition, and Secret Weapons of WWII.

Both came with the Anthology edition, there's still an active server for the expansion packs currently. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the download links here, technically I think 1942 should be considered abandonware now. So I'm just going to leave a link to the semi-official 1942 forum nowadays. http://team-simple.org/forum/index.php

The WW2 mod for Vietnam was also included in the Anthology, it was a recreation of Wake Island and Philipines from 1942 I believe.

Yeah sorry, you are correct as the expansion packs used to come on CDs and they weren't downloadable content.
