bf1 gameplay is different than other bf versions, heres why
TLDR: the historical era of WW1 limits passive field spotting like other versions of BF. because of that lack its a more solo chaos challenge imho...
what i find most incredible and worthy in the bf series is that bf takes individuals and through the heat of the action makes a team like versus competition out of it -- 32 individuals going at another 32 (some obviously clan guys maybe on their own TSpeak or more better experienced but generally we are talking mostly strangers here!) and generally we come together and its fun to watch and contribute... i still remember a game of bf2 i played a long time ago, and i can recall the commander spotting the field map like an AWAC. it was a blast!
bf1 is different...
no fault of bf1, its just what i have seen happening in the game the more i play. what is wrong with bf1 right now is that we are all going into it with modern fighting logic, not trench old style - i am not a military historian but this is after all the oldest era that EA has emulated for a BF series. it would blow my mind if EA did like a BF1080a.d. medieval version or something... but run with me here, the farther back in history we go the less fun the game will be for the whole mass - the strangers that we are... its harder to design a game to work the older the war period imo.
folks dont seem to be tactically aware (minimap or spotting) in BF1. its much more individuals running around... and i think i know why.
in bf4 you had things like UAV, commanders, spotting balls, target detectors -- all of that is absent from bf1 except flares and sniper spotting telescope. folks use flares to burn people, sometimes i have seen a dozen flares in a single room.... the spotting telescope is never in use, put that next to sniper decoys for never-seen-in-play. maybe once. so the battlefield becomes individualized. there is a tank i think with a spotting lamp that i love but you never seen anyone using it imho. there are tools in bf1, but they are not passive but rather require more work to spot.
add fog and watch the modern player be baffled. i love the fog, but it really shows the weakness of a team that isnt playing cohesively. love the fog, but in bf1 it can destroy the game flow. if your team wasnt communicating before the fog, now its dying...
what do you think, is the bf1 player style much different from other versions and is that intended or consequential?
quick add, this is the pain list i am getting mad playing bf1 for:
- TOO MANY GRENADES being tossed around in BF1: anywhere from 6 to 12 grenades (i have counted) come flying at me every time i am indoors... the shear number of explosives in this version is absurd: crossbow, rifle grenade, grenades, extra grenades for assault class, dynamite, tripwires, mortars, field cannon and tanks. play argonne forest and you will at flag C see ever single one of those weapons firing inbound to the bridge 24/7/365. weird that they have no artillery.... but i am so tired of the constant grenades in bf1.
 - weird thing happening where every server has like two guys that are 60-0 types. notice this? i wish they were hackers but its like one or two super players are always pilots or snipers every game. its just a thang.... and if you are playing the uberplayers its great if they are on your team and game over if they arent. any else seeing this?
 - spotting and field intel, SitRep if you will... thats this post above, the difference in field awareness is noticeable imho in bf1.

i have been playing bf since 1942 and have at least 1000 hours of every version since: bfVietnam, bf2142, bf2, bf3, bad company, and bf4. i dont play but own the others like arma3. i like the open fields that are in the series as well as the vehicle variety, and certainly the eye candy of late. but... bf1 i think is a different animal. turns out i think older eras make for more chaos, intended or not. its different, what you think? i hated bf2142 until a year later, so some games need time to be worked further, i am into bf1 but find games sometimes to be horribly unrewarding like never before...
- Thats not a Question...
