BF1 multiplayer crash on dx11, requires DX12 setting

 Specs: Laptop asus ROG GL702VM

gtx 1060 6gb

i7 6700hq

16gb single channel ddr4 ram

This game keeps crashing in multiplayer if i dont put the DX12 settings to "on", when it crashes it also weirdly crashes my discord so i have to reconnect.

Im using dx11 because this game is so poorly optimized on my computer i get alot of drops on the lowest on dx12 so i have to use dx11 but as i said it crashes.

i also included the dxdiag file if anyone is interested.

My game settings are all on medium, ambient occlusion and the other off/on setting is off. except textures which is on high im pretty sure or ultra.

forgot to mention, i just bought bf1 today.

Also when it crashes it used to say something about directx, i cant catch it again as when it crashes it just says battlefield 1 has stopped working.

I've tried turning settings down, lowering resolution, all my graphics video drivers are up to date.

  • Hi @Reloadium!

There are a few things you can try:

    • Disable origin in-game overlay from the client settings.
    • Disengage any OC on your GPU (even if it's factory)
    • Delete the Battlefield 1 folder under your documents
    • Exit any minimized software that may interfere with the game performance (such discord)

Let me know if you get a performance improvement at least!

    Regards

  • The crashes have stopped however performance is still trash.
the game keeps a constant +60 fps and keeps dropping to 30 every 3 seconds, this is not the only game where this happens.

After 1 hour of testing i can successfully say this did not work in the slightest, i still get bad fps and fps drops.

Okay. In that case you should check your CPU and GPU usage when you play the game. Please download and install MSI Afterburner: https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner

After installing, open MSI and go to Settings. In the Settings tab go to Monitoring tab and tick GPU usage and CPU usage. Click Okay and launch the game (Do not close MSI Afterburner). Then, join the server, play few rounds and see your CPU and GPU usage (%). Please let us know your results.

    Thanks!

What about CPU and GPU usage? Can you please check that? Also, this temperature of CPU or GPU or both?

after playing 1 game and using msi after burner i can safely say both the gpu and cpu temperatures are 80-90C.
however my fps wasnt over 60 it was over 100. the fps drops happen when the gpu usage hits 99% and the cpu usage always stays below 90%

    @Reloadium

Can you try to change your graphics settings to Low and enable V-sync in the video settings? Then, play few rounds and check your CPU and GPU temperature and usage.

    Thanks!
