I've the same trouble, when I launch the game I have a message saying "You have to download and install this UI update to play online" and two buttons saying Yes or No. But I can't click those buttons so I stay blocked at this step and can't play.
I've redownloaded the game, checked the integrity of the files, checked for updates but I still have the problem.
You can see below a poor picture of the message in french (I'm not even able to take a screenshot while BF1 is launched, I don't know why...)
It seems to be linked to the message we have before the game starts "Your graphic card is below the minimum requirements". But months ago, the game worked properly with it.

I am playing BF1 on PC platform.
Also, I complaint to EA Help and send them PC characteristic (DxDiag). They said that I have too low characteristic of graphic card, and that the game will work once I upgrade graphic card. That’s all from them and the case is closed.
I find this strange because I had played this game before with the same graphic card!
