BF1942 lan problems

Hello.

I recently bought a bunch of around five year old computers with my friends so we could have a LAN party for the first time since we were young teenagers almost fifteen years ago.

BF1942 has always been our favourite shooter, so it was a no brainer that this was the game we were going to play.

I got the game running on all of the computers, but when we had our first session last night one of them had problems during LAN-play. The game kept complaining about connection problems being detected and suffered significant lag when that happened. We started out playing 2vs2, and the problems didn't show up that often then. But when we switched to CO-OP with bots, they were pretty much constant.

Does anybody know what could cause this? The computer should be powerful enough to run an old game like this even with a lot of bots, but clearly it had trouble keeping up with the information being sent to it from the hosting computer. All the computers are running the same version of Win7 through the same router via cables.
