BF4 forcing itself to run on integrated graphics chip (Laptop)

I had terrible FPS in bf4 so i opened GPU-Z and saw that my integrated graphics card (INTEL HD GRAPHICS 4000) was at full load and my GeForce GT 650M was still on low temperature and with no GPU load.

So my question is: How do i force BF4 to use my 650m instead of the integrated graphics  (I have latest nvidia drivers + I tried forcing the game to run with the Nvidia card via nvidia control panel)

what can i do?

  • IVE FOUND A WORKAROUND TO MAKE IT WORK ON YOUR GRAPHICS CARD!

connect your laptop to your tv via HDMI, for me, the hdmi output is from the nvida card, so all display automatically goes trough there!!! can finally play well!!!

You need to go in to your BIOS, change the GPU to FIXED mode, that will force the computer to start with the "real" GPU. You can always change to intel in the graphics properties in windows.

If it is an ATI card, search for Leshcat drivers and try those, work very well for me, I dont use any standard ATI drivers, game runs super well. On Nvidia try OMNI drivers, also alternative drivers.

On my nvdia gtx 660m, I have tried 331.65, 331.40, 327,23, and 320.49 to no avail. I will try some even older ones, but this is still a problem for optimus laptops that are unable to get into the "fixed" mode. I don't think it should be labeled as solved, as it was fixed by doing a workaround that requires using hdmi.

i have still same issue. Please someone help about that

  • So far what I know, if anyone still cares. Reinstalling battlefield 4 may work, if you want to go further - reinstall windows. This has worked for at least one person with the same issue. EA support is useless to the topic and will reffer you to either your ISP or Nvidia support (as per usual). It is simply the game's fault - you can tell because the nvidea gpu activity monitor shows all applications running on the card, and I get every game I own (including BF3) on there BUT BF4. If reinstalling does not work, idk what will. I will respond back in a week when bf4 finally finishes its install...

  • I figured it out some time ago. Run bf4 on x86 and it will work fine. It is configured by default to start on 64 bit but that doesnt activate the gpu. start it on 32 bit and it should be fine

Just in case someone else comes across this issue. Running on x86 fixed the problem for me aswell. (Nvidia GTX 940M)
