BF4 Freezing (Game & Computer)

My game keeps freezing. Sometimes it'll freeze enough and I'll get disconnected with a "Network disconnect" style of message, but sometimes it'll unfreeze. I've also noticed my computer will freeze up sometimes, and only seems to happen when I'm playing BF4... Maybe it's locking up so hard that it's freezing my processor?

I've tried pulling the log files but I cannot for the life of me find where they are.

@Mozzy4Ever Could you please try following steps:

    • Make sure that neither your Firewall nor your Antivirus software is blocking the game.
    • Check if there is an update for Windows available -> If you are running Windows 7 without SP1 as an example.
    • Update Direct X and Microsoft .NET Framework.
    • Run Origin and SW:Battlefront as administrator -> You could also try changing security permissions on the origin games folder giving users full control instead of just read.
    • Microsoft Visual C++ x64 and x86 versions of 2010 and 2012 uninstall. Reinstall with Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 3

    Cheers

  • Can you check to see if you have origin in game enabled (it's enabled by default) as it causes low FPS and sometimes lag. If it is enabled disable it and try playing again to see if the problem persists.

To turn off Origin in game log into Origin, in the upper left hand corner click on the word "Origin" in the menu, and then click on "Application Settings". Next go to the "Origin in game" tab and uncheck the "enable Origin in game" box.

Have tried both with and without it, freezes nonetheless.

Tried this, have also tried port forwarded all the BF4 related ports. No dice. Seems to be an issue related to Punkbuster shutting down. I enabled punkbuster logging and my log file shows this right around the time of me freezing:

    [10.12.2015 15:21:21] Receiving from PB Server (v v1.902 | A1390 C2.351)
[10.12.2015 15:21:22] PnkBstrB service installed and started successfully
    [10.12.2015 15:25:10] Master Query Sent to (MASTER1.EVENBALANCE.COM) 192.155.198.210
[10.12.2015 15:25:12] Received Master Security Information
    [10.12.2015 15:29:22] Not Connected to a Server

Maybe punkbuster is crashing and when my game unfreezes, punkbuster restarts.. but when I fully crash, it isn't restarting?  I've updating punkbuster manually and haven't had any luck, that's not fixing my issue. I have both Punkbuster A and B allowed through my firewall and my antivirus isn't scanning those folders.

    Little more information:

The error I get when my game fully crashes is "

"ERROR Game disconnected: Client closed down connection."

I've disabled both my antivirus and my firewall and I still get the game crashes/freezes.

Had the same error since the spring patch and have never found a fix. I've tried pretty much everything suggested, even went as far as changing ISP.

Sometimes the game freezes for a few seconds and will come back and i'm usually killed at that point but I can carry on playing. Majority of the time it just disconnects me back to battlelog with the check your connection error.

  • Similar problem here.  Since the spring patch the game will randomly freeze for anywhere between about 15-45 seconds and then resume.  So far it hasn't actually crashed to desktop.  Tried too many fixes to list and it still occurs.  No hardware changes done since I got this machine so that's not the issue.  No imminent hardware failures as far as I can tell, no over-heating issues anywhere either.

    Damned annoying for sure.

Still no reply except for the copy/paste response from a different entirely. Figures.

Hey EA how about you actually help instead of copy/pasting a response from another game? I did all those things you asked, and more. Still no fix. Christ, no wonder EA was voted the worst company in the world.
