Thanks for the suggestion; didn't fix things sadly ☹️
I'm half tempted to just stop worrying about it and just delete PROFSAVE after every game session and just reset my settings each time I start the game... kind of annoying but only takes 30 seconds or so.
I would suggest reinstalling battlefield 4 and reset the Documents folder with the BF4 Save files, this way it should reset to factory settings of BF4 (Game progress is unaffected due to built in Auto Cloud save system) If this doesn't work I am afraid you might need to wipe your PC clean and reinstall from scratch, this is quite common with PC upgrades since the system has the hardware saved etc. Hope this helps!

I did look this error up more and as stated above by Pro it is worth doing a clean install of BF4 but when un- install BF4 also delete the BF4 folder in my documents. As uninstalling the game does not remove this folder and you want everything clean and new if you go down this road.
After you un-install the game and delete the BF4 my document folder reboot PC. Then just to be sure it is all removed from the PC go download the free version of CC Cleaner and install it then use it to clean the registry as it will remove all old / dead files and this will ensure no fragment of BF4 are on your PC. Then reboot PC and run CC Cleaner again on the registery keep doing this until it finds nothing. Then install BF4.
C:\Users\your PC Name\Documents\Battlefield 4
BF4 folder in my documents holds game configs and screen shots even if BF4 is installed on different drive. When you uninstall BF4 it does NOT remove this folder.Go download the free version of CC cleaner..

Install CC Cleaner
Now use it to clean the registry, reboot PC and check the registry one last time for any issues. If it finds any repeat steps until it finds none.
If you want steps to rule out windows doing this then I can give you steps as it can save you a format. But with everything you did and from the reading I did on this I do not think it is a windows issue.- 11 years ago
OK well I suppose a fresh install of BF4 is next on the list.
I can confirm that it is not an issue with anything in Windows - just did a clean Windows install, problem still persists.
Also just noticed that resolution is irrelevant to this problem. No matter what I set the resolution to in-game, if I attempt to apply it in Fullscreen or Borderless window, the result is that first screen.

Something is making it act up at this point I don't think it is windows either but if this fails I will give you some command lines to run to rule out or fix windows. It will save you doing a format again as that's just pointless since you just did it and it fixed nothing.
Just when you uninstall the game don't forget to delete the BF4 folder in My Documents then reboot PC you know the drill, so you get a fully new / clean install of BF4.
