Solved

Connection problems and performance issues in the menus. PC

My game was running smoothly but after the Giant's Shadow patch I had a lot of weird things happening on my menu screen at once and in the main game:

  • Firstly, the main menu freezes every second for like 7 seconds or just freezes for forever, and whenever I click on anything it just further freezes the game
  • Secondly, 99% of the time it constantly says 'Connecting' even though my connection is good on other games and in general
  • Lastly, I managed to reach single player and replayed a mission I had no issues on in the past but my performance was suffering with constant lag spikes, even on low settings.

And the loading screen takes like a couple minutes to open..

So far I tried:

  • Reinstalling the game
  • Turning of my firewalls
  • Repairing
  • Disabling the firewall to my computer
  • Restarting my computer and router
  • Allowing BF1 ports through TCP and UDP.

Help would be appreciated a lot.

Thanks

If anyone else is experiencing this issue with connecting to the EA servers in the menu, make sure to turn off DirectX 12 in the main menu screen!

This was enabled for some reason and cured my problems.

  • I'm pretty sure they're having server problems right now. I've been trying for a few hours without being able to connect but I can play other online games fine with good ping.

They could be, but if that's the case then all we can do is wait I suppose.

Over the past couple of days I've experienced a similar issue. Game is slow to connect, get lag spikes and freezes, and then ultimately it will just refuse to connect. Here is my thread: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/BF1-Connection-issues-after-starting-game/m-p/5765580

Flushing DNS, clean booting, repairing the game, and deleting Origin cache files all helped, but apparently it was temporary for me. I am now trying to find another way to solve this and hopefully avoid a full reinstall of the game. Maybe you will have better luck than me trying these, but it might not even be the same exact problem.

Edit: Missed the part where you said you reinstalled and repaired, which means I will avoid trying to reinstall for myself.

Thanks for your reply, i'll give the DNS flushing and everything else you listed a go. 😉

Hopefully it is more than a temporary fix. Right now I am defragmenting my hard drive and maybe going to reinstall Origin again because my problem keeps getting worse.

Also, do you have the latest Battlefront update or another download queued in Origin? It's probably a long-shot that a queued download would be the problem and that we would have the same download queued, but maybe it is an Origin problem with downloads that is only manifesting in BF1.

Are you using the release version of Origin or the Beta version of orgin? Have you tried disabling Origin in game both in the Origin application settings and under BF1's settings by right clicking BF1's icon in origin, selecting view game details and disabling Origin in game there as well?

I never cared to learn how to get the beta release of Origin, so I doubt I have that. Also, before the last reinstall of Origin, the Origin overlay should have been disabled ingame and I believe the problems were still there. If it was automatically re-enabled, I will disable it again.

Also, I'm not even sure that it would even be the cause of the connections problem and was guessing at the possibility of a queued download being a common factor between people who are having the same issues as I am.
