Coupon Code and BF4 Pre-order

I received an email from EA regarding a mistake they made sending out old service interaction emails.  At the end of the email was "an Origin coupon code for 20% off your next purchase, valid for the next 60 days."

I tried applying this code towards purchasing BF4 and the Premium add-on but kept getting an error message.  Is, for some reason, this code not valid for pre-orders or maybe I'm trying to enter the code in the wrong location?
