DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG
I'm getting the error. Running 8gb Corsair XMS3 DDR3 AMD Fx-6300 2x EVGA GTX 650 Ti Boost SC 2gb 970a-G46 mobo I've stress tested, I've downclocked. I've swapped drivers. Reinstalled DX, ...
I know there are other posts about DirectX, but I haven't found one recently, and using the search bar for directx crashes.
Using a template from a bug report forum for BF3:
Issue: Crash to Desktop (CTD)
Platform: PC
Map: South China Sea
Mode: Campaign
Description: Right after fighting through to the doors of the med-bay after getting onto the Valkyrie I get a CTD with this message after trying to activate the door.
" DirectX Error:
DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The application's device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application. This is a design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed."). GPU: "AMD Radeon HD 6900 series", Driver: 13.9 (13.152-230830a-163178C-ATI) "
Has happened twice now in the same spot. I will try and update my GFX drivers to the beta version and see if that helps.
As a side note, i've read on this forum from a helper/hero/com. manager that EA doesn't read these forum posts, yet here: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/forum/threadview/2955065670118762490/last/ it says to post in these forums for technical issues, which I kind of get, but how would EA know of the bugs/glitches/crashes or other random problems with a game if they don't read this forum while directing users to this forum for tech. issues? I find it kind of defeating the purpose if they'll never read the posts which would allow them to push a fix in a patch.
I had the same problem try changing the compatibility mode of bf4.exe on your installation folder to windows vista SP 2 x32 this worked for me

There are more respondents active on the AHQ forums than there are on Battlelog, but it is Battelelog, where the DICE people are watching for thngs they will try fixing. Only EA Help provides official support.
AHQ is Self-Help, gamer to gamer. Not official, and no obvious oversight by DICE (I have never seen a single instance here indicating the presence of any DICE personnel visiting here). Have you run any Search of your question in here? I'm pretty sure it's been answered already.
the solution I give was given to me from EA Help
I'll try it now, and sorry, I searched for directx problems and there were so many, I guess I didn't check enough for that problem. I find it weird that you would have to have the game run in compatablity mode for Windows Vista..but I'll give it a try. Thanks for the help by the way 😕mileyhappy:
I really hate when the response we get is did you try searching for your problem? YES! That's how we found this thread in the first place!
PLEASE DO NOT TELL US AGAIN TO UNDERCLOCK OUR GPU, REINSTALL THE GAME, REINSTALL PUNKBUSTER, REINSTALL DIRECT X, PLAY IN WINDOWED MODE, SEARCH THE FORUMS, RELAX UNTIL THE GAME IS FIXED, REINSTALL A CLEAN WINDOWS.
IT DOESN'T HELP!
First of all is your graphics driver too old, this leads me to believe you should update all your drivers before you do anything else. Secondly you should reinstall DirectX.
Do you run Win8?
I have updated my Radeon HD 6970 to version 13.11 beta 8, followed theurixen's attempt at a fix, looked for updates all over my computer including my BIOS, for all I know something else could be effing with it, yet still I crash in the exact spot, with the same message. I've reinstalled my DirectX drivers as well, twice. Run dxdiag and everything seems normal. Also tried eabarry's attempt to fix with running DXSETUP from the BF4 install folder.
OS: Windows 7 x64
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6970
CPU: i5-2500K
Memory: 8GB
With no fixes working, I wonder if i'm going to be better off waiting for a patch..especially if someone's fix is having to set a compatibilty mode for 32-bit Windows Vista..running on a later OS should be no problem whatsoever. Now lets see how long that'll take.
I have this issue in both BF3 & BF4 and it only occurs when my videocard is overclocked. If it's overclocked for you, try reverting to stock speeds. Doesn't make sense as these are the only 2 games I have ever had this issue with (I run my card OC'ed all the time) but for me at least it was the only workaround. A real fix would be nice however.
I receive the exact same error as puma:
DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The application's device failed due to a badly formed commands sent by the application. This is an design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed. ") GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti, Driver: 33165
The problem comes up for me only when in a vehicle however. In windowed mode, my driver would crash and the screen goes black. Then windows says the driver has crashed and has now recovered. In full screen mode, the error is the one above.
