Friends game crashes after me deploying in game.

Dear all,

my friends and I have a weird issue...

When we join a game, most of the time, at least one of their games crash, when I deploy in game. Sometimes they are not even able to rejoin, because the game crashes when joining.

We usually look for empty servers and play Gun Master. Weirdly it seems to happen especially when we are connected via voice through Discord or Steam.
Unfortunately there is no crash report which might be useful to troubleshoot the problem. Funnily the issue arises only with my deployment... They are able to play among themselves without any issue. Also I never crash on theri deployment.

Note that I am neither using cheats, or have been banned for cheating, if this helps somehow. We also disabled the origin overlays and Discord overlays. All our gamefiles validate successfully.

This bug is extremely frustrating, especially because it seems stupidly random and weird.

I would be happy about any suggestions... Thank you in advance.

  • I am a victim of this bug as well :-/

In some instances, seemingly at random, Battlefield 4 simply (without error message or similar) crashes to desktop when he spawns.

Regardless of whether I am already deployed or waiting to be deployed.

If I join the server while he is deployed, this can lead to the crash as well.

In the even viewer, the crash is logged like this:

  • Reason: The CDN at akamai provides the DDS-Texture files for the users emblems. For some reason some servers respond with an HTTP Upgrade request, that will initiate a false payload. This usually happens 99.999% as plaintest HTTP.

Solution: Make sure the CDN will only respond with HTTP 100.00% at the time.

Edit: It's not an upgrade request. The provider sends a 0 byte payload instead. A DICE Battelog System Engineer is working at it. Thanks to DICE to make us happy again!

  • You simply can't. EA has to change it, but there is a temporary bypass that may have some side effects:

Add "127.0.0.1 eaassets-a.akamaihd.net" to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, to block the DNS to the emblems webserver.

Don't forget to remove it after some time and try again.

@IntelDCIBackdoor I think we found a problem. It's not a HTTP 4xx which is causing issues... It's a HTTP 200 with a 0 bytes response for the DDS-Texture files which is the problem (I suspect). thanks for these theories and insights though as it actually helped me pinpoint an issue at Akamai. Hoping to have it solved soon.

Actually one of my previous post was shadow banned, because it contained more detailed informations including ip-adresses.

Well, at least i was right with the corrupted payload, but i hope that the HTTPS Upgrade didn't cause much confusion  😇

Thank you for looking into this bug and making us happy again!
