Specifically, make sure you are using the correct HDMI port on the TV and that 'enhanced HDMI' is enabled on the ports that support it.
My TV has two enhanced HDMI ports (HDMI 2 & 3). The PS4 is connected to HDMI 2 and my Xbox One is on HDMI 3. The HDR mode for the corresponding HDMI port is set to HDR10. HDR works fully and fine for pretty much all of my other games.
