Helicopters and Jets - Keyboard+Mouse vs Joystick?

I wanted to ask the more experienced Helicopter and Airplane pilots in BF4 do they prefer using Keyboard+Mouse or a Joystick?

I tried flying helicopters and airplanes using the keyboard+mouse but all the commands seems very counter-intuitive and imprecise (even after rebinding keys to my liking).

I have never used a joystick but it seems to greatly simplify and improve the control and precision of flying helicopters and airplanes.

However before i buy a joystick i would definitely like to hear what the expert pilots are using, and why?

  • Hello,

I'm using Keyboard and mouse but that's just because I'm used to it. It all comes down to what sensitivity and setup are you using.

Also, using a joystick it's better but that depends if you want to take the joystick in your hands just to fly a helicopter and then to swtich on the keyboard.

Anyway, it's a matter of taste and also, skill. I'd say keep practicing on AirCombat servers and try to improve your flying skills. There are plenty of youtube vids online.

    Thank you, and good luck!

@Bogdanov89 for me, the Xbox 360/One pad works best while piloting an air vehicle while some mates love to play with Joystick or just with Mouse/Keyboard. I think best would be to play with the different sensitivities, like @Imsmokealot mentioned, in order to find the best working setup for yourself.

  • Hello! I have like 500h playtime just flying a Heli whit keyboard and mouse and I wanted to det to the next lvl so I buyed a joystick and like others are saying it's what you are used to you. For me flying a Heli is harder whit a joystick cos ist new. But in the long way I think you can get like me world top 364th ranled pilot on choppers just usins the mouse and keyboard! And yes at the first it's really irritating to get the joystick in a right place fot not be in your way...

  • This is on the older side of time, I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.

If you have any issues with Battlefield 4 please make a new topic about your problems and what kind of steps you have tried to solve them.
