High CPU Usage, Low GPU Usage and FPS

SPECS:

CPU: i5 4670k @stock (will try OCing)

GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

RAM: 8GB DDR3 1866MHz

Whenever I play on large 64p Conquest servers, I get max CPU usage and terribly low GPU usages which results in very unstable fps that drops to 20-40. I tried playing Campaign which performs a lot better, max CPU usage but also max GPU usage which gives me well above 60fps on 1080p Ultra. I also tried playing other games like PUBG, GTA V, and Rainbow Six Siege and my CPU and GPU usages in all those games are both at 80-100%. It is only on BF1 Multiplayer where I get terribly low GPU usage and fps which saddens me since I just returned to the Battlefield franchise and I really enjoyed playing this game.

  • Hey @aSa-PALPR0TEIN,

It looks like your CPU doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Battlefield 1.

It is a very CPU intensive game, and will cause some issues if you don't meet the general requirements.

    Some things you can try:

    1. Turn off the Origin In-Game Overlay in Origin and the Battlefield 1 Game Properties in Origin

    2. Check your Frame Rate limiter settings and make sure you have it set to 60 FPS, instead of unlimited.

    3. Turn off any background applications that you're not using (ie Discord, Nvidia GeForce Experience)

Try these steps, and let us know if you see any improvements.

    Thanks 🙂

  • I have noticed the exact same behavior throughout the BF1 lifespan. I think it just means there is a lot going on in the game that is not graphics related. Also the DX12 feature to reduce CPU utility is not making a difference. Dough when the system is flawless (no * in the back) it should run oké on you'r system as well. I never noticed a difference in performance for different game modes besides more ''action'' in a smaller area in Operations & Frontlines which is natural for these modes. I'm not expecting any change in game-engine architecture any time soon and expect it to be the same for future Dice / Frostbite engine games. I do wonder what CPU will only utilize for 50% in BF1 for a human price.

-My i7 4960X is on 97/100%  all the time 🙂

-One thing you can try a few times is different Intel Chipset Software upgrades & Force GPU driver to do PhysX on the GPU (stock is auto mode)?
