How Do I Play Battlefield 2 DLC Offline?

I've owned Battlefield 2 and the several expansions since the game was new, and re-installed it from the Origin site recently. I realize that online play is no longer supported, but I would still like to play off-line. Unfortunately, I can only get the base game to load off-line, none of the expansions appear as a playing option while they did just a couple years ago. The only message I get when I look for the expansions (which I re-installed from Origin) is that you must be online for the Special Forces expansion, which, of course, can't be done.

Am I stuck playing only the base game off-line, or is there a work-around to access the expansions?

  • Hey

I also own a copy of this incredible game and i am can play offline because I used the CDs to install it.

If you have them (it), I would suggest to use them for three reasons:

1- You do not need to waste your internet downloading it.

2-You can easily play offline on the expansions by clicking on the shortcuts that are created on the desktop.

3- You can modify the files to add more bots to the match. (I am playing 127 bots {64 players on each team})

If you still want the digital copy working, I would try opening the bas egame and going to custom game and trying to open the expansions from  there.

    Hope it helps,

    L

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it out. I have the disks for the base game (the old one with on-disc copy protection), but downloaded the expansions. I'll try opening the game from using custom game.

Question: how do you modify the number of bots? I'd heard about that years ago, but never found out how it was done.

Thanks for the advice so far. I really prefer BF2 to the later games because you can play single player and don't have to deal with the cheats in MP games.

Hey, it is great to hear back!

Sure, so to play with more bots, I'd suggest to watch this video.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1bN7ttsqqg

The file linked to this post is mine archive from the video (the video isnt mine btw - I changed mine file so i could play with more)

If you want use my file, go right ahead, i dont mind, but keep in mind it is set to 127 bots, you may experience some crashes if your pc isnt powerful enough to play with 127 bots.

If that happens, just change the # of bots.

    Hope it helps,

    L

Thanks for your help! Today, I was able to play my first games with 32 players (16 each side) on the expansion maps. The experience was great with no hiccups, probably because my comp is much more powerful than the one I had when I bought the game. For your info, I did have to load the expansion maps from the custom game menu. The experience would be complete if only we could play on the 32 and 64 player maps.
