If you run into problems installing Battlefield Hardline

If you’re playing a digital version of Battlefield Hardline,  it should automatically install to your platform after downloading .

If it doesn't, follow the steps for your platform:

PC:

  1. Launch the Origin client.
  2. Open the My Games tab and right-click on the Battlefield Hardline game tile.
    • If you can't find the Battlefield Hardline game-tile but you're sure it finished downloading, make sure your Show filter, located under the My Games tab, is set to All Games.
  3. Select Install.

PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4:

  1. From the XMB, or main PlayStation menu, open your Notifications.
  2. Select Downloads and navigate to the Battlefield Hardline file.
  3. Press the Options button and select Install.

Xbox 360 or  Xbox One:

  1. Navigate to your Download History from the main Xbox Menu.
  2. Select Battlefield Hardline file and press the menu button.
  3. Select Install.

If you run into a problem while installing, for instance, if your installation freezes, gets stuck, or fails, it may have become corrupt when downloading.  We recommend manually uninstalling any files that made it through the installation process, then starting the download and install process over again.

Launching and playing

Once you’ve installed your game, try restarting your game, console, or the Origin client to check for any game updates.

Even though you just installed, there may already be tweaks and functionality fixes, and we want to make sure you have the best gameplay experience possible.

Game updates should occur automatically when launching your game on Xbox or PlayStation, or on your PC with the Origin client also running.

To launch your game after installing updates:

PC players:

  1. Open the Origin client, select the My Games tab, click the Battlefield Hardline game tile, and then click Play to open Battlelog.
  2. In Battlelog click Multiplayer, then select the game mode you would like to join.
  3. This will launch your game and you can start playing.

PlayStation 3 and 4 players: Find and select Battlefield Hardline from the XMB, or main PlayStation menu.

Xbox 360 and Xbox One players: Find Battlefield Hardline in your installed games, and select Launch.

If your installed game won't launch

PC players, first and foremost, should make sure all of your drivers, specifically your graphics card drivers, are up-to-date and that and no programs are running that might  cause conflicts.

All players having problems getting into a game should check Battlelog or Battlefield.com to make sure the servers are active.

Anti-cheat

We hope all players are respectful of each other and the game, but we understand that sometimes these things do happen.

    How to use Battlelog

With Battlelog, you always have Battlefield with you. It allows you to find new friends to play and compete with, check your stats and progression, customize your soldier, interact with the game while you play, and much more.

Battlelog keeps you in the Battlefield

    Jumping into the Battlefield

Battlelog helps you find new friends to play and compete with, check your stats and progression, customize your soldier, interact with the game while you play, and stay connected to the Battlefield wherever you are.

To get started just head to Battlelog.com, choose your Battlefield of choice, then use your Origin Account email address and password to log in.

    • Go to Origin.com if you need help signing in or remembering your password, or to sign up for an Origin Account if you don't have one.
    • If you're playing on a console like PlayStation or Xbox, sign in with the Origin Account you linked with the very first time you started playing Battlefield, or any other EA game in the past.
      • You can find this email address by opening up Battlelog in-game.

If you're on the go, head to the Google Play or Apple store to find the Battlelog app. You'll find most of the same features you can access on the Battlelog website, optimized for touch and small screen sizes. It can be used both while you're away from the game and when you're playing.

With the Battlelog app you can also sign in using a QR code by opening Battlelog in-game on PC, Xbox One, or PlayStation 4. Simply scan the QR code, verify the 4-digit code, and you will be signed in automatically.

When logged in and booting up Battlelog you'll find your Profile and a quick overview of what's new in your world of Battlefield in one place.

    • Your Profile stretches across all of Battlelog, including all Battlelog-enabled games and soldiers.
      • Here you can manage your Friends, see all of your soldiers from each Battlelog-enabled game, and stay updated with the Battle Feed--where you can post new updates and comment on your friends' activities.
    • If you're viewing your profile on the Battlelog home page, you can find quick access to every key area of Battlelog--from the Top Story in Battlefield news, to leaderboards, platoons, and even details on your Premium membership.

    Check your stats anytime

    Check on your soldiers

Every detail of your soldier's career is available from the Soldier menu.

    • On the Overview tab you will find a quick breakdown of your current rank, skill, and score, detailed stats on every weapon and vehicle, and even how much of the game you have completed or unlocked.
    • Jumping to the Stats tab will give you extensive details for your progression on every single weapon and vehicle, stats from your matches, and details on your play-style.
      • See how you and your team performed in your latest games with the Reports tab.
      • You can check out both your own performance and those of all the other players in the round to find out what exactly went down during the match.
        • Premium players can even save a Battle Report and share it to your Battle Feed for extra showing off to your friends.
    • The Unlocks tab lets you know what else it takes to get that next weapon or piece of gear you've been eyeing, how much longer until you can outfit your vehicles with what upgrades, when each kit will be available, and the dogtags or patches you've been earning.
      • The Unlocks tab is also where you'll head to instantly unlock anything you've earned or been given in Shortcut Kits, too--just select the item and click Instantly Unlock Via Kit Shortcut.
    • By selecting the Loadout menu you can customize your soldier's weapon, accessories, gadget, and vehicle setup at any time then click Save to have it instantly updated, whether you're playing or not. The next time you deploy, your new Loadout will be deployed with you.
      • Batttlelog loadout customization will not be available during the Battlefield Hardline Beta.
    • Track your Assignments and progression to each medal and dogtag in the Assignments menu.
      • Medals and dogtags in Battlefield Hardline are instead known as bounties and patches, respectively.
    • Pat yourself on the back and figure out what else you need to do to earn more ribbons in the Awards menu.
      • In Battlefield Hardline, look out for coins instead of ribbons.
    • Manage all of your opened packs and open and purchase all the Battlepacks you can in the Battlepacks menu.

Click on your Soldier and Rank either in the top menu bar or the larger Soldier portrait and Rank in the main area of Battlelog to open that Soldier's overview.

    • If  you have played Battlefield 3, 4, or Hardline on multiple platforms you will have several soldiers to choose from. Your Active Soldier is considered your current Soldier-of-choice and will be reflected on all pages.
      • To use the game companion features such as joining servers or changing your Loadout in real time, it is important that you are using the correct Active Soldier.
      • You can always change your current Active Soldier by hovering over your profile name, selecting Settings, then Soldiers, then choosing the right soldier for the battlefield you're ready to storm.

Find players to compete with or against

Challenge friends and other players all over the world

Opening the Multiplayer tab launches you into the Server Browser. Here is where PC players can find and choose the exact sort of match they're looking for, or jump into a match immediately in the Play Now tab.

    • With the Favorites and History tabs you can easily revisit your favorite places to play.

If you hover over the Multiplayer tab you can find the Missions menu.

    • Missions let you compete against your friends and see who is the best at Battlefield.
      • Create a new Mission by clicking Create Mission then choosing an objective--such as getting the most kills or most dogtags taken--and invite up to four friends to compete.
        • The winner is the player with the best score after all attempts have been used or the time has run out.

You can team up with your closest Battlefield-playing friends with the Platoons tab.

    • Start your very own unit with the Create Platoon button, or ask to join in with your friends by clicking their platoon and selecting Apply.

Clicking the Leaderboards tab will let you compete not only with all Battlefield players in the world, but also specifically with people in your country, or even just your city.

    • Choose your location and see if you can become the best in your region by climbing the leaderboards from Division 10 to Division 1.
      • It is completely optional to provide any location, and you can choose any position on the world map you want.

Further down the main menu bar you'll find a link to the forums, where you can join all the passionate players in the Battlefield community.

    • Create a new thread in one of the sections to start a new discussion, or reply to an existing thread to keep the conversation alive.

Check your stats and campaign progress

Finally, for when you're flying solo, see how far you've gotten in your Battlefield single-player campaign and check out how you stack up against your friends in the Campaign tab.

With the Campaign page you can get a detailed breakdown on all the assignments and collectibles you can find in the campaign and find out if you are the best amongst your friends.

Pro tips and gameplay help for Battlefield Hardline

Success on the Battlefield comes from steady and firm communication among your team and knowing what your team needs for any given situation. These exclusive gameplay strategy tips come to you straight from the playbooks of the most skilled players on the Battlefield Hardline development team.

The key to winning matches is successful communication with your squad.

    Play to complete objectives.
To play as a team, don't worry about killing every player possible. You get more points for fulfilling objectives and winning the match than for shooting enemy players.

    • Even with the lowest number of kills, completing objectives can make you the number one player on your team.
    • Use squad objectives. You receive bonus points for completing objectives signaled out by your squad leader.
      • New players: Learning to follow--and eventually give--Squad Orders is one of the best ways you can support both your squad and your entire team. You're only as strong as your weakest link.

Keep a diverse team. Even one good Hacker can turn the tide of a match.
Hackers can expose enemy positions on your mini map and hide you and your allies from the enemy. They can run Traces to find high-value targets, then alert your squad to priority missions by marking the targets as points of interest. Hackers can also use the Backdoor subroutine to unlock certain battle pickups, using points of interest to communicate the locations to the team.

    • Each class has its own unique pros and cons for how to approach your enemy.
    • If you're new to the game, try the Operator for a well-balanced way to move around the map.

Don’t forget to mark enemy targets.
It takes only a moment, and it helps your team see where the enemy is and what they’re up to. Knowing enemy positions can be the difference between a win and a loss in a tight game.

    • New players: Spotting enemies is one of the best ways you can support both your squad and your entire team.

Adapt your strategy to the game mode you're in.

Don't expect one style of play to be equally effective across the board.
There are infinite possibilities to discover, and each mode has different ways to approach your objectives for each team. For example:

    • When playing Heist mode as a Cop, shoot at the helicopter before the Criminals can attach the loot bag to make it fly away.
    • When playing Hotwire as either team, a Mechanic riding with you and equipped with the repair tool can repair a Hotwire vehicle while moving, giving score increases for all players in the vehicle.
    • In Blood Money, you can collect cash faster if your entire team is focusing on it as a goal rather than each player going their own way.
    • Some maps have special battle pickups. Learn what and where they are as soon as you can to keep specialized gear away from the enemy.
    • When playing Crosshair mode as the VIP you'll have to make a stealthy and sneaky escape. Avoid being spotted by the enemy at all costs.
    • Don’t go prone in high-traffic areas.
      • Use prone position on higher ground to lower your visibility.
        • At the same level as other enemies, you’re still too big a target, and it takes too long to stand up if you need to run and escape.
    • New players: When playing any game mode other than Team Deathmatch, concentrate on your objectives rather than kills to climb the top of the scoreboard.

Know the Weapon or Gadget to get you through any situation.

Fill your Loadout with weapons that fit your style of gameplay, and adapt when you need to.

    • Weapons with a high rate of fire are great, but the recoil can result in muzzle rise.
      • First, try to fire in short bursts if equipped with an SMG or Assault Rifle.
      • Second, aim low on the torso and let the muzzle rise to pull your shots up for not only more hits, but also the chance at a headshot.
    • All Battle Rifles can switch fire modes.
      • Switch to semi-automatic for long-range targets, or fully automatic when indoors.
    • High vantage points aren’t always a sniper's best friend. Always stay moving between targets for the best position.
    • If you don't have the quickest aim, and for ultimate close-range firepower, try the double barrel shotgun for a great chance to kill your enemies in one shot.
    • .338 Magnum rounds are powerful but in short supply, so make your shots count.
    • It's difficult to aim accurately when suppressed.
      • If you're suppressed, it's best to get into a safer position.
      • Laying down suppressive fire on an enemy position will help your team advance and hold the ground.
    • Details such as "bullet drop" and velocity apply in Battlefield Hardline.
      • The farther away your enemy is, the more you’ll want to aim above them to score a hit.
      • If your enemy is moving quickly, make sure to lead them by aiming ahead of where they're running to hit them on the move.
    • If you see an enemy explosive on the wall, you can shoot it to set it off, or you can approach it and safely disarm it.
    • If you want to avoid running out of ammo, just stand by an ammo crate to have access to an infinite supply.
    • Attach a silencer to your weapon to remain hidden from the enemy's mini map when firing.
    • New players: If you're trying to get to an objective before anyone else can, switch to your secondary weapon to sprint even faster.

Use Gadgets to supplement your arsenal and find creative ways around objectives.
Your weapons aren't the only thing that can cause damage or meet your goals. Gadgets give you ways around the average running and gunning.

    • A sledgehammer and breaching hammer may swing really slowly, but you can use them to knock down most destructible walls and doors.
    • The deployable camera gadget makes sure your back is covered before trouble strikes.
    • Trip mines can be left at the top of ladders--just make sure you look out for them when you start a climb.
    • You can still use ziplines that are shot upward by jumping on them to travel back to the stand.
    • You can disarm an enemy's sabotage using a repair tool.
    • New players: Try throwing gas and incendiary grenades toward open areas when running and toward weak spots you uncover in positions. Most players will avoid running head first into smoke and fire.

Vehicles will get you where you need to go, and then some.

Vehicles can keep a stacked playing field level. Take command of as many as you can so that the enemy doesn't get the chance.

    • Vehicles take more damage when hit in the rear.
    • Sedans and Coupes may seem like simple transport vehicles but can be upgraded to hold certain battle pickups with enough money and experience.
    • You can save most stuck vehicles with a melee attack.

Customization puts you in full control of your gaming experience.

You can change the look and feel of your game, from how your menus work to what maps you select, and make the game work for you to win.
For example, if you don’t like the size or opacity of friend/enemy icons in multiplayer, change those settings by going to the Pause menu, then to the Gameplay tab, then Options, and finally Advanced Options.

Campaign pro tips for single player success in Battlefield Hardline

Use these tips to get the most of your gameplay in Battlefield Hardline, whether in the middle of the action or skulking around the shadows. This information comes from the experts who made the game to help you perfect a competitive edge.

    Running and gunning

If you prefer to shoot first and look for instructions later, consider these helpful hints:

    • Keep your friends close—in tough times your follower will toss you med kits to keep you going.
    • Pay attention to the scenery—most enemy encounters offer multiple, branching paths to your objective.
    • If the enemies sound the alarm, take aim at the speakers to disable it or  quiet it down.
    • If you’re prone to spraying, stay near deploy cases—they refill your ammo and you can return to them for more.
    • If you’re having a hard time storming through an area, try changing your weapons, attachments, and gadgets for a new perspective on the battlefield.
    • The Armored Insert gadget reduces the damage you receive and can keep you alive longer in trying times.
    • A silenced weapon can help you get around quietly while eliminating enemies quicker than using a taser or take downs.
    • If the enemies are throwing gas grenades, wearing a gas mask can help you stay calm and collected while under fire.

    Stealth and Sneaking

If you tend to slow down and take a calm and calculated approach, try some of these maneuvers to surprise the enemy:

    • When following enemies, don’t forget to make your move—they’ll eventually figure out that someone’s behind them and turn around.
    • If you hide too long during combat your enemies will start searching for you in the last place they saw you. Take this opportunity to give them the slip and escape.
    • Slow it down to avoid being seen—crouching and going prone around enemies not only makes it harder to spot you, but they also won’t be able to hear you. If you make too much noise, they’ll be coming for you.
    • It pays to be a non-lethal player—take down enemies with the taser to avoid giving up your position and alerting more enemies to your presence.
If there are too many enemies in one location, try to lead one away using distractions. This can help make more fights manageable.
    • Use a silenced weapon to take out the alarms and alarm boxes before storming a room. If the enemy can’t reach the alarm or use it, you can prevent enemy reinforcements from arriving.
    • If you ever lose your footing or get lost, look for an Objective marker on your mini-map to get you back on the right track.

    Sights and Sounds

If you’re the type of player that wants to immerse yourself in the story and complete every objective and goal  you can, keep these tips in mind:

    • Use your scanner to find clues to build case files that tell you more about the world of Battlefield Hardline. Some evidence you find may even foreshadow things to come.
    • The scanner also lets you tag enemies and points of interest. By tagging, you can remember enemy movements and evidence you need.
    • If you’re worried that you missed something, look in the top, left corner of the scanner to see how many pieces of evidence are near you.
    • You can find some evidence by performing non-lethal takedowns on enemies that you have warrants for.
    • You can acquire some weapons only by completing Case Files.
    • Pay attention to your partners—in most areas they’ll let you know when a clue is nearby, so listen when they tell you to look around.
    • Spots you can use the Grapple Gun on will only appear if you have the gun out and are using it. Get in the habit of swapping to it whenever you’re exploring an area.
    • Use your badge to command enemies to freeze. This can help you perform a non-lethal takedown to get the most out of your Expert progression.
