You can remove the origin requirement by uploading you file bf1942.par here :
juste copy the downloaded file in the main game directory = and it work !!! without have to launch origin anymore by the way !

Remeber that you cannot play on punkbuster protected servers since your game files are modified.

Thank you! This works on Windows 7 64-bit. This is no joke.
I had the same issue as everyone here: Nothing would even attempt to start. This guy's solution worked perfectly.
Make a backup of BF1942.par.
Click the above link, navigate to original BF1942.par file, SUBMIT and save it to your BF1942 game folder, overwriting the original.

when i go to multiplayer i choose a server but sayme invalid cd key

This worked for me but for some reason I cant find any available servers. When I try to enable punkbuster it says I need the latest patch wtf lol

origin does not have punkbuster only cd version has that you can still join servers and have server list just update your bf1942.exe

If you can't find any servers, please go to this link and follow the instructions. Takes less than a couple minutes... and don't forget to check out the MoonGamers server!

Got the same problem after upgrading to windows 10.

I tried what you did but when I got to the page it gave me an ERROR 502 what now?

have you tried the gamespy fix http://team-simple.org/download/battlefield_1942_gamespy_patch_v1.61.exe
it put the exe on admin on and xp sp3 mode also give you the new master server
