OK for the people that are impatent about bf1942 the game was not ment to run on 7/or windows 8 and not even vista,also the reason for use posting your stats is because they are trying to fix it where it is able to run on 7 and 8 computers.
So don't get your feathers in a bunch.
I would sugest go play something else in the mean time like games that work for you and not complaing about something that is free,something that was given to you.
I have the same proiblem but the game used to run on my pc. After 3 months i decided to play again but it wont open ..

Today I installed the game, and my experience was pretty good. I played online and the campaign. My game is from Origin. I have Windows 10. All I did is: download the Gamespy patch from here (I have to thank @emile44) and installed it in the game folder.
And then I launched the game and the screen went black, I minimized the game, and a Windows message was there saying that I had to install DirectPlay or something like that. I clicked in okay, and the game launched!
