BF1942 will launch on my account, which I made back in April of this year. I have also confirmed that it works on another account made back in February.
However, it does not appear to launch on any new accounts, regardless of the computer; both my friend and I could not get it to work at all with new accounts, on at least four different platforms.
We tried:
1. Making a new account on a computer with Origin & BF1942 installed & working with an old account. We had to update BF1942 to circumvent a request for a code. Afterwards, everything looked normal but the game would not launch under the new account. It still works under the old account.
2. Installing Origin/BF1942 on a computer after creating an account. The game would not launch with the new account, although it did work with the old account.
We also tried the proposed fixes with no change in results.

I have experienced the same problem! I don't think this is an issue with the game but its an issue with newly created Origin accounts. My computer will run Battlefield 1942 without any issues from my Origin account, but if I log into my friend's account on the same computer the game will fail to launch as everybody here has described. If he logs into my account on his computer, the game will launch, but not from his own account.
So it has something to do with new accounts? (so most likely it has something to do with origin launcher then not the game,so since the new updated origin client possibly has something to do with it; I think the same thing happened to steam a while back so)
