My solution for this game who don't launch (sorry,i'm french...)
Go to :

Take this file :
"BF1942 v1.61b [ENGLISH] No-CD/Fixed Update"
Install this and you can yet launch "Battlefield 1942"
My solution isn't very legal but i can play...

Works for me, BUT if I want to join a Multiplayer game it says "Invalid CD key" -.-
As far as I know the Free to Play Version of BF 1942 does not provide any CD key...
The usage of the crack was just for testing purposes, so EA should fix the bf1942.exe file causing the "not launch" error.
