Volarus, what work around was this? I may sound shallow when I don't want to spend the effort like that to get this working, especially when it means getting yet another set of account / password info to remember and safeguard.
I have this problem to. My origin account original had BF3 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, then I added the Humble Bundle games before adding BF1942 Free. I've tried using Google to search for solutions and all I seem to find are people suggesting to use compatibility mode to no avail.
I've tried repairing the installation multiple times between restarts. Tried setting the program to start with and without origin overlay and in and out of compatability mode with Windows XP / XP SP 2 / XP SP 3 / Windows 98. If I use windows trouble shoot and only that to use recommended settings (to windows 98) and launch the program it tells me that I am missing ssleay32.dll
My experience is when trying to launch either the .exe through explorer or through Origin I'll see the process in the task manager appear for an instant and close. No error message will pop up or anything. Other than Origin telling me "Preparing to launch Battlefield 1942" I wouldn't even know I was launching the game at all!
However, the errors do show up in event viewer:

This is one of those things that depresses me about PC gaming. Those problems that no one knows how to fix and the few people that don't have the problem seem to be rude about it outside of this site. Thank you for looking into the problem EA and I hope you can maybe help me understand what my issue is.
