Is the Online Multiplayer for BF4 on PS3 shutting down permanently this summer??

I have been hearing rumors that BF4 Online Multiplayer will be shutting down permanently as early as this summer? Please tell me these are only rumors??? Also heard, we will not be able to make any purchases or rent servers through the BF4/Playstation Store anymore. If so, why?? There is such a large, dedicated fan base on PS3.. I don't get it?

  • @IIPrest0nII Thank you. So if they are shutting down the Playstation store, do you know if they will make all the maps available for free? I sure hope so!!!:D

    Hey,

There is no official information about shutting down multiplayer in Battlefield 4 on PS3, so rumors are rumors and nothing more, but since Sony closes their store (PlayStation Store) I assume it won't be possible to rent servers anymore. Despite Sony closes their store it should not affect access to the Multiplayer mode in Battlefield 4 as PS+ isn't required on PS3 as far as I'm aware.

  • Hi @XEcu_SpartanLord,

Despite we all love the BF4 game, then all good things comes to an end.

And the end for the BF4 game on the PS3 platform is probably next in line.  When it makes sense to shutting it down, is unfortunately also a financial decision.  So despite you say 'many players are still playing it', then the income EA and their server hosting partners makes on it these days is limited to just the revenue coming in from those paying to rent the remaining servers and the rare purchase of a game license by a PS3/BF4 gamer...    So when that is no longer a positive business case, then its bound to mean that EA will pull the plug on it.  And nobody can really blame them for that, as they have since then launched multiple successors.  (though we can all challenge how good they were, reason why we are many still going back these days to the great BF4 game :o))

Try and check the active number of servers and player trackers, and you see the numbers are truly dwindling fast last few years.

A proper successor in the form of a BF6 (a hybrid BF3+BF4 game on steroids) cannot come fast enough please!

This is what Sony said publicly:

You will still be able to access previously purchased video/media content. You will still be able to redeem game and PlayStation Plus vouchers. You will still be able to re-download and play claimed game titles through PlayStation Plus as long as you remain a member of the service," the company informed.

However, the users will no longer be able to make in-game purchases through games on PS3, PS Vita and PSP.

You will also no longer be able to redeem PSN wallet fund vouchers (gift cards) on PS3, PS Vita or PSP devices once PlayStation Store and purchase functionality for these devices close.

  • @CyberDyme Yea you're right, It sucks and honestly I hope I can play it for years to come. Its just such a good game and way ahead of others in my opinion! I've been playing BF4 for 8 years 5000+Hrs strong and I still love it like it's new.
I agree BF6 cannot come fast enough!! Plus on the next gen consoles!! Ughh🥴 It's right around the corner and GOD I cannot wait!
