Battlelog is great once you figure it out. The website acts as the serverbrowser from which you can join games.
It sounds like you need to enable the Battlelog plugin in your browsers settings.

is there anything special I have to do OTHER than constantly download the link they are telling me to over and over and over again then activate the download over and over and over again?
I presume you are refering to the Battlelog Plugin. Download it, install it as administrator, be sure sure it's not blocked by your browser. It's hard to be more specific when you are not specific about the problem, don't even know what browser you are using...

I am using google chrome though if I copy past the URL into another browser and log in it lets me play
