Low FPS with Dual Radeon HD 6800s

HIS Radeon HD 6870s specifically. a few year old configuration but it should be enough to handle this game smoothly. I also have 8 GB RAM and an i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz and am playing at 1920x1080.

The issue isn't very cut and dry and here's what I've seen: It doesn't matter what my settings are, but the game will run smoothly for a few minutes each time I first launch it. After a little bit I start to get some FPS lag, especially when turning. This slowly gets a little worse and basically makes the game unplayable. The settings can be maxed on ultra or all on low and it's the same results either way. The only way I've gotten some better performance is by lowering the resolution scaling which makes the game look like absolute crap. Same result whether it's windowed mode or not.

I haven't had time to explore too many options, but I'll continue to try some things and would love some suggestions/help on this.

I tried changing the resolution scaling to 60 and nuked settings to all low and this problem STILL occurs. I had some slight issues with performance in the beta, but nothing anywhere near this severe. It'scompletely unplyable.

The first thing that comes to my mind would be drivers. What version are you running right now? I had the same issue with my dual 5870s, and upping to the then latest drivers during the beta fixed my problems.

Oh, sorry, knew I forgot to mention something. I did upgrade to the most recent version before I played - 13.9.

Another player got rid of this problem by reseating the xfire/SLI bridge connector, try that.

I tried the 13.11 beta driver. Things seemed better at first, but after a few minutes it degrades to where I can barely move. I mean like 1/12 FPS. Doesn't matter if I nuke the settings either.

I played BF3 on maxed out settings with 60 FPS with this same setup. I have a hard time imagining there is anything so much more taxing on this.

EDIT: Just saw your reply, eabarry, I'll try that next. Was it simply reseating it, or did he use a different one?
