Make Battlefield 5 Esport friendly
Hello EA!... And Dice!
We all know that Battlefield 5 is in the drawing room and is about to happen later this year. I have been played the Battlefield franchise since 2005 but since release of both BF4 and Hardline I think there is time to make a step back and also listen to the veterans.
I have been inte esport and competitive gameplay a long time now and its been a pity that Battlefield have a big chance to develop a strong position among FPSgames in esport but failes miserable on several points. Its time to change that and create a game wich can be played by all kinds of players.
Introducing competitive mode
What makes Battlefield "Battlefield" is vehicle gameplay wich makes the gameseries to stand out among other large titles like Call of Duty and Counter-Strike. But also think about what those later mentioned titles have in common and why they are bigger among players around the globe: infantry only and more competitive friendly gameplay.
Why are their games more suited for esport? Infantry only, smaller maps and roundplay makes it more intense and exciting to follow. Wich also means more esport friendly compared to basecamping in 30min with AAguns and 2min enemyconfrontation on foot.
BUT! Battlefield is not at the same time so linear as CoD and does not includes as small maps like in CS wich makes Battlefield a more free and "only in Battlefield"-moments are created.
So how can you draw attention from more players and become more available for different kinds of gameplay?
What do I think shall be introduced? Create two seperate kind of Headlines. One for community and one for competitive mode and under those more headlines wich seperates the game modes from eachother. Like this:
- Competitive
- 5v5 (Infantry only)
- Domination
- Rush
- 8v8 (Vehicles, classic BF)
- Conquest small
- 5v5 (Infantry only)
- Community
- Works like the same with filters as it does today already with Battlelog.
- Air superiority
- tank superiority
- Domination
- Conquest large
- Gun Master
- Rush
- Works like the same with filters as it does today already with Battlelog.
Competive mode and how it works
- Vanilla maps only! Includes atleast 6 different maps.
- Introduce Match queue. Join match when full server(10players for 5v5 and 16 for 8v8)
- Competetive rank with MMR rating that works like it does in Dota2. Start with 1000points wich increase/decrease after a win/loss
- Global cooldown. If players leaves matches early or dont behave ingame they can be banned from playing 30min-30 days depending on incident.
5v5
- Domination
- 3 flags
- Start tickets: 250
- full ticket burn = 200tickets in 10mins
- fixed spawnpositions wich counteracts spawnkilling and baserapes and are randomized wich makes it more difficult for winning team to maintain fully control except defencepositions.
- Rush
- 4 bases with 2 mcoms in each base
- 2:30 time limit for each base.
- 20 tickets for Attackers
- 20-30 seconds time limit to defuse mcom. 3-5second defuse time.
- Round ends when time runs out or all mcoms are destroyed.
- Attackers and defenders, sideswitch after each round.
- Both teams plays twice on each side. Includes overtime with one round on each side.
8v8
- Conquest Small
- 4-5 flags depending on map
- 450 tickets
- Full ticketburn: 250 tickets in 10min
- Maps difference from each other is what type of map they are: ground or air maps with standardized start amount of vehicles.
- Ground maps are close bombat maps slightly infantry favoured
- Basevehicles:
- 2 tanks
- 2 Armored cars
- Captured flags
- 1 car on each flag except central flag.
- Centralflag stands out by spawning a tank or a scoutheli, depending on style of map or neither of them if close street combat gameplay.
- Basevehicles:
- Air maps are pilot favoured maps
- Base vehicles
- 2 tanks
- 1 Transportheli or 1 attackheli
- 1 jet
- Captured flags
- 1 car on each flag except central flag.
- Central flag stands out by spawning a tank, scoutheli or a attackheli, depending on map and balancing.
- Base vehicles
- Ground maps are close bombat maps slightly infantry favoured
Communtity mode and how it works
- As it works like today!
- Vanilla maps includes atleast 6 different maps.
- DLC optional gameplay
- Night operations
- You can join a server freely and run around like you always did in battlefieldseries in any gamemode.
- Notice! in communitymode Conquest large is the only sized conquest map. Think like it was in Battlefield 2. Conquest small only belongs to Competitive mode for 8v8.
Spectator mode
You started out good with already introducing it in Battlefield 4. For Battlefield 5 we can continue on the same path but also introduce the opportunity to change spectator template for the esportscene. When spectating a game we would like to know wich side our favourite team plays on. Introduce the host to change name on teams while in spectator and have the opportunity to change HUD and display different kind of statitics of the match at the same time.
Player profiles
- Competitive Rank
- Works like MMR rating as in Dota2.
- start with 1000 points. Gain/lose point when winning/loosing a competitive match
- Players stands up against other players with similar points
- World rank
- Gain exp by playing in any mode.
- Gain extra exp by doing things ingame. works like it does today
- Rank 1-180
- Add info and statics of choice but not "Skill"-points. Read under header "improvents"
Improvements
- Dont count skillpoints. Skillpoints are from now on, known as the competitive rank.
- Dont add so much things in the enviroment, especially not in competitive mode. better and more realistic graphic but not too much details of things! dont get me wrong. think more clean like Counter-strike. Battlefield 3 was okey but Bf4 was too much of things around. its not only for us playing it in ocmpettive, the audicence should also have the chance to see more of the enemies you are shooting against through a medium quality stream.
- Introduce high quality servers as standard for competitive mode.
- Dont add exp-boosting packs! if you want doubleExp, add it at max one time per month.
- Dont realease before the game is finished! BF3 was a proof on that and it started to work great when it was about time Bf4 was release. Bf4 is still not fixed either with all these bugs, glitches and crashes. So you made the mistake twice. Please postpone two months instead, you want loose money, by keeping a loyal playerfanbase you will keep more players for next upcoming games and will get your money for fixing good games and not broken ones.
- Add full SLI support
- Add VR support
Weapons and classes
Following are examples if game are themed like BF3 and BF4.
- Balancing weapons. Divide type of weapons depending on wich side you play on.
- Example:
- Red team: Take more damage but much less accurate
- AK and RPGs
- Blue team: Less damage but much more accurate
- M4 and SMAW
- Red team: Take more damage but much less accurate
- Example:
- Less weapontypes to choose from depending on each type of class. Depending on class max 4-6 slots of equipment.
- Assault:
- Assault rifles
- Pistol of choice
- M320 or M26. must be underbarrel and therefor grip will disappear from mainwepon. Fast switch between gadget and main weapon.
- Ammo bag
- Support
- LMG
- Pistol of choice
- Medic bag or Medkit (Differences betwween these two works like in BF4)
- Defibrillator
- Recon
- Sniper rifle or shotgun
- Pistol of choice
- Claymores or C4
- T-UGS or MAV
- Spawn beacon (locked from competitive mode)
- Soflam or PLD
- Engineer
- Shotguns or Carbines
- Pistol of choice
- Anti-vehicle or Anti-Air rocket based weapons
- repair tool, EOD Bot or Anti tank mines
- Assault:
Occourse its a lot more to discuss but I think this with introducing competitive mode can increase Battlefield and it stands on the esport scene. Its a lot what I also mentioned that can be argumented against but this is what I feel and almost with certain works to attract audience for battlefield matches in the future.
Hope you understands what i mean. and sorry if any misspelling 🙂
Sincerely,
"Forzzell"
Hi,
Recently EA has announced its own its own Competitive Gaming Division, it's led by Peter Moore - this group will enable global eSports competitions in our biggest franchises including FIFA, Madden NFL, Battlefield and more.
Next Battlefield will probably the one featuring and using most of its eSports elements. It is safe to assume that we'll be seeing some of your suggested game modes for eSports too - as they are most likely in works.
With the release of next Battlefield approaching, I am sure we'll be hearing more about eSports for next Battlefield soon.
