Mantle Problems with Notebooks and Switchable Graphics

Hello,

I have an MSI GX 70 Notebook with an AMD APU ( A10 5750M with HD 8650G Graphics Core ) and AMD GPU ( AMD HD8970M ).

As far as I am able to see, the HW should be fully Capable of BF4 with Mantle ( Runs in DX  Mode with 50 - 60 FPS in High Settings ).

After installing the AMD Driver Update 14.1 Beta, there is no option shown in BF4 for Changing the GPU setting:

I checked via the New Render. Command which GPU is registered from Bf4 and its the 8650G from the APU and not GPU from my notebook.

also i checked via MSI Afterburner: as stated there, the GPU Core in Use was the 8970M with load, whilst the 8650G was in Idle during the whole Gaming Phase.

Looks from my side as if BF4 is not capaple registering the active GPU or better to say on switchable Graphics wich core is Active.

I tryed to set via AMD Catalyst  the calculator to High Performance and started it ( system switched then from iGPU to dGPU ) and started BF4 afterwards. still the same problem, just the iGPU is registered from BF4.

The MSI Gx70 Gaming Notebook, has no options in the BIOS or Windows Tools to deactivate the iGPU completly. So please check if there is an way to enable Mantle.

same problem here, I'm using alienware m17x r4, w. 7970m. I guess this line under 14.1 driver description includes us,

    • Notebooks based on AMD Enduro or PowerXpress™ technologies are currently not supported by the Mantle codepath in Battlefield 4™

    anyone else to confirm that?

In other words, this line from the driver description means that Mantle is currently not supported for Battlefield 4 on laptops with an integrated as well as a discrete graphics card.

I'm not a developer so I have no clue if this is something that the Battlefield Team or AMD has to implement, but at least it shows that they are aware of it and that it might change in the future.

Lol, just made a post about this myself. Exactly the same laptop as you and graphics card and having the exact same problem. will try the driver you linked to in your other post, thanks!

Wrong. LeeKM's blog specifically states that Enduro and PowerXpress cards are NOT supported.

I have also noticed that the 14.2 beta 1.3 drivers give a slightly lower Windows Experience Index score compared to 13.12 mobility drivers (WHQL).
