Microsoft sidewinder FF2 joystick functions are scrambled

I have BF4 64 bit on Windows7. I'm trying to set up a sidewinder 2 joystick to use while flying. I use the same joystick in Microsoft Fight Simulator and it works fine. Also the Control Panel (joy.cpl) shows everything working fine. But when I try to assign the bindings in BF4 they seem  scrambled. For example when I move the throttle UP to try to assign throttle up it shows a key binding of Trigger 2 rather than something sensible like ZAxis+.  Bank left works ok but bank right shows up as Button 4 or something crazy like that. Any idea whats going on and how to fix it? I tried to clear all the joystick assignments and start from scratch but had the same problem.

  • I did some research and older joysticks have a bit of a process to go through in order to work with BF3 and BF4. http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/forum/threadview/2832654624732140013/

These are the steps that one Battlelog user recommended:

    1. Join a low pop server or a sever with no one it in. There are servers that say like "test" or "learn-how-to".
2.This is a painfully long process but you need to unbind all the "joystick" keys for everything besides Air...
3.I binded my keys a few times before I got it right...So just bind the "air" keys to what you think might be right and if it isn't then just keep testing it. Eventually you should get it right, I have everything I need working Logitech extreme 3d pro beside the enter/exit...That is the only thing I couldn't figure out.
    4. Test, test and test more...
