multiplayer on batttlefield bad company 2 xbox360

I bought battlefield bad company 2 a few days ago and whenever I try to go onto multiplayer and put my ea account stuff in it says "your gamer profile does not have the correct permissions to access xbox live functionality please help

and I have gold ownership that hasn't ran out
