My PC keeps crashing while playing multiplayer - BF4

I am having an issue where, when playing BF4 multiplayer after some time, the game crashes the whole PC, and the only way to get out of it is to 'fat finger' it and reboot.

There is no cooling issues, I have ensured this by checking on temp's, and even having the fans on full flow to ensure cooling is good enough.

The nvidia gfx drivers are updated with the most current (not beta) versions.  I have even uninstalled these and redone them, and also rolled backwards to see with no change.

I play another game (WoW) with no issues like this.

I have also ran a few benchmark and overloading tests and they do not effect the PC what so ever.

I don't care I have to reboot everytime, its more that I loose my XP etc when this happen!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Could you please post us your system specifications?

There is no clear troubleshooting step for crashing issues but we got several responses from our community that some of following steps worked to solve the issue:

  • can you tell us what ram you have . your op sys . if you re using win 8 try compatibilty mode (win 7) . if you can look at your mem usage from task manager before your pc crashes it can be helpful too

  • ok my system is as follows

    Windows 7 64 bit

    intel i7 920 (bloomfield)

    sabertoth X58 MB

    6GB corsair RAM

    Navidia geforce GTX 660Ti

    with SSD.

RAM usage can be not far off 100%, i have 2 allocations for VRAM.

and just to confirm, it crashes the whole pc out, i have to hard reset and reboot to get back in to the OS and i cant see anything once it happens (as in i see the game as it was once crashed, but unable to switch to tools to check on things)

I have tried a few bits you have told me about below and I shall report back once anything comes apparent

  • ok so as it stands right now, i have tried/done the following:

set the in game audio to headphones.

ensured that direct x is updates, and teh MS .net framework is also uptodate

disabled the NVIDA high def audio.

the security permissions of the origin folder is set for everyone to full control

set the nvidia contol panel phyisx to my GRD card and then did repair

uninstalled all the C++ and reinstalled as stated. had an issue but repaired that one.

all my settings are low as that was one of the first things i did when i started having this problem (from the start!!!)

and all that, it just crashed on me !!

i will now give the uninstall and reinstall of punkbuster

and run as an admin and look at going backwards on the the GFX drivers

    thanks

    sid

PS... i have played on campain with no issues at all, so would seem ? at the mo that it is MP only!?!?!

  • 331.65 installed and still having issues,  rolling back one more

  • I had the same crash issue with my PC. I just discovered my NVIDIA card was not ramping up the fan speed on the GPU block. This was causing my system to crash.

I have an Asus GTX660-TI video card. Asus has a tweak program that allows you to monitor and overclock the card. The fan was on auto but never seemed to go higher than 10%. I figured I would put it at 100% speed and that cured my problem. I have been able to play straight for several hours now without issue. I also noticed using the video card monitor, that my card is running at 100% during game play!

At 100% fan speed my Video GPU temp holds at 51C. Give it a try. Holding my video GPU temp down cured my crash problems.

i have tried this also, as i was not convinced that it was giving the right speed for what the game was pushing it to do.

    However, nope still the crashes

even with all the tweets and changes to drivers etc.

I have given up and now playing it on my wife's a lot older 9k series GFX card.  ☹️
