need help cfg/cpu

First of all my config doesnt seem to load!!! I created a text file and saved it as "user.cfg" in the Battlefield folder ( WITH the setting "all files") as explained in many videos/guides. Sadly my Fps is never shown in the top right corner, while i have the cfg settings copy pasted from guides:

So what have i done wrong?

Also i only have these settings in my config. If some1 knows more commands to increase my fps i'd be glad to hear them. Last but not least:"Tweaked and improved CPU multi-core utilization to try and avoid stuttering and low framerate due to stalls that happened on some CPU and OS configurations. -Users can now configure and control themselves how many CPU cores should be used in the game with the new “Thread.MaxProcessorCount” settings in User.cfg. "

How can i use the "thread.max.processorcount"? My pc seems to overheat after 30 minutes of playing and my fps drop then always, what would be best processorcount for me?

I hope i can get some help here

    Hi,

    are you sure you saved it in the game folder, not the documents bf4 folder?

    You didn't just open a new text file, save it then rename it to user.cfg? If you just rename the txt file it'll end up being user.cfg.txt.

    You have to actually do 'save as' from inside notepad 'file menu' and save it as user.cfg

    From what I've read “Thread.MaxProcessorCount” is broken and not working atm. It can't hurt to add it to your user.cfg, won't make things worse. You should use with the number of cores your CPU has. I have an i5 which has 4 cores so I would use Thread.MaxProcessorCount 4

     

    Just check how many cores your cpu has.

     

    If your computer is overheating and your FPS a dropping after 30mins of gameplay, I would suggest your GPU is overheating. It would not be your CPU. You probably have bad airflow (and/or alot of dust) inside your case.

     

    Some of those settings your putting in your user.cfg are pretty useless (as in aren't even commands) and/or don't have that good of impact on FPS. I suggest just the following (pre Jan30th patch). 

     

    GameTime.MaxVariableFps 125 *set this one to 1 number above the max hz of your monitor (i.e 60hz monitor set to 61, 120hz monitor set to 121)

    RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 0

    RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0 *only if you run with vsync off

    PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1

    Thread.MaxProcessorCount 4 *Number depending on amount of cores your CPU has 2,4,6,8,12

    WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapEnable 0

    WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapResolution 256 
    WorldRender.TransparencyShadowmapsEnable 0

     

    Last three threads about shadowmaps, I would try running without them post Jan 30 patch (as these issues are supposed to be fixed now). If however you try with and without them, with them getting better FPS then keep them on.

    thanks mrmeanfinger, that 2nd post of yours was really helpful for me to understand some things.

    though i opened a text file with word pad and also tried with editor, filled the cfg commands and then saved it into the battlefield 4 folder as user.cfg  (yes i clicked "all files") I played 8 years Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory where tweaking/saving configs is coming daily, so im 100% sure i didnt safe it as a .txt.

    unless I have overlooked something the file itself seems ok indeed. Have you tried starting with one line

    in it to rule out there might be a line that stops the cfg from loading?

    you use the bf3 console command force renderahead.

    For bf4 its: 

     

    RenderDevice.RenderAheadLimit

    Thanks for pointing that out nlsandman. I was doing the post from work so mainly from memory. You are correct. The user.cfg file should look like

     

    GameTime.MaxVariableFps 125

    RenderDevice.RenderAheadLimit 0

    RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0

    Thread.MaxProcessorCount 4

    @ OP, it looks all correct from your posted pic, I really don't understand why it's not working? Sorry I can't help you out, if you finally get it to work let us know what you did. I'm curious as to what I was missing?
