Origin fails to launch the game beyond a cloud sync

Win10x64 (v1607), i7-4770, 16GB, R9 270X (v16.12.1), X-Fi Titanium (v2.40.15).

When I try and start the game from Origin (for the first time ever), it does a quick Cloud Sync, and then after a bit of spinning blue circle, the "Play" Button becomes available to be clicked again.  There is no error message.

I can see bf1.exe is launched and this opens activationui.exe.  They then close in reverse order.  Note that on first ever attempt, the firewall would have briefly blocked activationui.exe (and bf1.exe) from accessing the Internet until I'd clicked on the allow button.  Does an initial activation sort of process have to be reattempted perhaps?

I've tried the following:

 - a Repair from within Origin

 - changing default browser from Chrome to Edge

 - disabling BitDefender's On-Access scanning

 - disabling outbound firewall

 - disabling HitmanPro.Alert's Exploit Protection

All my other games on Origin, Steam and Uplay are fine, including BF4.

Do you have any suggestions as to what sorts of problems can cause this sort of error condition?  Thanks for looking!

Thank you @Cantoris for updating us on this.

Glad to know you are fine now, and able to play the game.

    Cheers,

This did work for a while and then I upgraded to Windows 1703 and also upgraded from a R9 270X to an RX480 (with the Clean Install option).  Now the BF1 problem in this thread has come back exactly as before; on launch the cloud sync occurs and nothing else, no errors!

I've deleted similar files to before; run similar things as before as admin; repaired the game; all to no avail.  I'm loathe to completely uninstall it as it's such a gigantic download!

My PC is full of games, all of which work fine - eg Sniper Elite 4 and Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 being two of the newest.  This is the only game which refuses to behave!

BTW, every time I run an Update for BF1, it downloads a 209MB file.  It does this without fail every single time?!!

I've attached Client_Log.txt as it may be useful.

    Any ideas??  Thanks.

I ultimately had to uninstall the game and redownload the whole lot again to fix it when it broke the second time...

    Pretty ridiculous!

It also eventually broke a third time (I think it was after the upgrade to 1709) and I had to download yet again.
