Upgrading the speed of your internet does not lower the ping unless you use your entire connection which causes buffering. So, if the only thing using the internet is Battlefield your upgrade should not improve your ping. What really determines the ping can be simplified to 2 things:
- The length between you and your target, in this case you and the Battlefield 4 server you are playing on
- The technology involved between you and the target
The first one is simple, a signal takes more time from A to B depending on the length between the two.
The second one is more complicated. The most important is the technology used between you and your ISP's backbone - how many routers and switches do you have to go through? Are you connected to the Backbone using tv cables? telephone copper wiress? Fiber obtics?
So, if you upgraded your internet to get lower ping that might not have been the best idea, however it should not have lowered your ping either. When you test with speedtest.net make sure you are using the same server each time and that no and nothing other is using the connection. Also never game or test your Internet using a wireless connection.

Well.I am worried cause no matter what online game i play the ping is the same. For example i play dota 2 and my ping used to be 110-130 when my ping on speedtest.net used to be like 60ms.
Now my ping on speedtest.net is 26 ms,but the same game Dota 2 still has the exact ping 110-130ms.Other friends of mine that live in the same neighborhood and have 24mbps internet connections who get only like 18mbps/24mbps they can play dota 2 with a ping around 80-90ms.An internet cafe near my area can get 30-50ms in Dota 2 european servers.
My issue is that after upgrading my broadband, despite the fact that i can download videos/movies/internet files etc. almost 2.5x faster, and upload videos and photos 5x faster,i still can't get to improve my ping in online games.it remains exactly the same?
I tried installing dota 2 to a different pc with different connection(non-wirless of course) which downloaded really fast in about 5 minutes with 5mb/sec download speed, but when i enter the game and go to the select servers screen, the ping is still the same and in-game it's even higher than what the server's suggest.
I tried using speedtest.net to other servers throughout Europe. In my country's server i get 26 ms,in a couple of German servers i get about 70-80ms, in English servers about 80-90.the farthest server from my location i got 110ms. But in-game all of those servers have high ping and i dont think my ISP can help me out either, despite the fact that the commercials they had said that internet speeds and online games' speeds improve dramatically.
I am just confused how can i be able to upload/download faster but my online games' internet speeds are the same?- Carbonic11 years agoHero+
Have you even read the answers?

yeah but from what you said do you mean that my ping is supposed to stay high despite the fact that i upgraded my broadband connection and there is nothing i can do about it?
