PnkBusterB.exe set for deletion

Hi. I have had this problem for 2 months now. I have tried every fix in the book and nothing helps.

I have identified that when I play a Battlefield game after a fresh restart I can play without a problem. The issues start when I close the game (bf[version].exe). When I do that, the PnkBstrB.exe file that was running successfuly before gets marked for deletion and because of that I can't restart or start the service manualy through Services.exe. I have done all the suggested fixes I could find but nothing helps.

I have done a search for every instance of PunkBuster files (A, B, pbsvc.exe and pbsetup.exe) uninstalled them first from control center and then deleted all the rest. I reinstalled all BF games I have. BF3,4+CTE and Hardline, and updated PB, added all the games to it and updated again. Issue was still there. I set them to run as admin, no help. I set the firewall rules and still nothing. Right now the only way to play is to either restart my PC or to log out and back in again. =/

I'm not hacking. I don't have to time for that. I work 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week, and all I want is to play some Battlefield at the end of the day for an hour or two. Can't even do that anymore.

  • I solved it. :DDD

A while back I played around with the settings of a program called Process Explorer that's basically Task Manager on steroids. I set it to always run on boot and to only allow one instance of any running file on my system.

After trying and failing to install an iTunes update today it dawned on me to google the actual cause to my problem. Which was that services were not being allowed to be deleted.

A quick correct search found that while Process Explorer, Task Manager, the Services console and the MMC apps were running services are not allowed to be deleted. They were set to be deleted after reboot but they remain seen by PE.

Closing all these apps will also delete the services on the spot.

So I looked into PE and saw that it was set to run on boot and also had a check mark on the "allow only one instance" option which I suspect was the second thing to block PnkBstrB.exe from running again.

After unchecking "run on boot" and "allow only one instance" I close PE and managed to play a full round BF3 close it and play another full round of BF4 without a single kick from PunkBuster.

PS. also installed iTunes hehe 🙂
