I cannot pick up any weapons other than the shank in the Prison Escape in Campaign mode. The first guard I kill with the shank drops a shotgun and the informatic next to it says "Hold to pickup Hawk...

no i can't pick up any guns, not with "R" or any other key i have..
Hey, try to allocate a key,
1) Start BF4
2) Press Esc
3) Select Options
4) Select Key Bindings
5) Confirm the Allocations of Reload & Interact
