ps3 glitch /bug south china sea mission ladder blocked

Campaign mode, south China sea, Once on the ship "Valkery",  I head up the ladder to see a helicopter attacking the ship. 2 guys are next to a ladder than I am supposed to go up and retrieve a stinger missile. The helo shoots them and they are suppose to die, but the don't die. They are blocking the ladder and I cannot proceed with the mission. I have disconnected from WiFi, restarted the checkpoint, restarted the mission, set the console output to 720p, restarted the game console, all advised by EA support (weekend so it was from India).  I don't want to reinstall the game and lose all of my progress to this point. Can anyone help?

    I was getting the exact same issue on PC. In addition, some of the soldiers on the deck with me (including Kovic and Irish) were glitching out and sinking into the deck of the ship, reappearing in the sky and falling in a loop, like in Portal.

    I restarted the checkpoint multiple times and also restarted the mission and but I got the same issue.

    I worked around the issue by walking up to the guy standing in front of the ladder, jumping up into the air and firing my shotgun above his head, killing him.

    Aim at the NPC at the base of the stairs with your weapon and fire side to side, some of your rounds will hit him and kill him.  You can then go into the room and pick up the stinger to take down the helicopter.
