Punkbuster issues

My game crashes for no reason halfway through a match, on further inspection, it appears to be punkbuster. I have rolled back drivers, which did nothing. I reinstalled punkbuster, nothing. Here's the event viewer crash logs:

Faulting application name: bf4.exe, version: 1.4.2.25648, time stamp: 0x54e3fd7a

My specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1
I7 2700k
GTX 670 2GB
16GB RAM

It started doing this around 2/3 days ago, I'd hope it'd fix itself, but apparently not. Any ideas?

  • I'm doing a full system virus scan, and will do the same with an anti-malware after. I've added the Battlefield 4 folder to exceptions, and after all that I'll reinstall PB again. If that doesn't work...

Scanning for hardddrive corruption, not virus or malware..

    It's Advanced/Rare Solution 2 in the guide I posted a link to.

I'm having the same exact issue, same file and everything. I've also been keeping an eye out for others having the same issue, of which there are. I submitted a ticket to PunkBuster since the problem is having to do with the same file: pbcl.d64

I've had the same error with 2 different locations of the file being referenced:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\pb\pbcl.d64

    C:\Users\asdf\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\BF4\pb\pbcl.d64

It's not viruses or malware, drivers, or lack of PB updates (I manually updated PB after I identified the issue, but the crashes persisted; I then tried a clean install, but to no avail).

To note, here's the log error:

I painstakingly went through the relevant steps in that guide but nothing has resolved the problem. Still crashing, same faulty module:

Faulting application name: bf4.exe, version: 1.4.2.25648, time stamp: 0x54e3fd7a
Faulting module name: pbcl.d64, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x55021c52

    ...:::EDIT:::...

I may have found a temporary solution (the game hasn't crashed yet, but that may change).

1: In Origin, right-click on Battlefield 4 and select Game Properties.

2: Under "When launching this game," select Battlefield 4 (x86) from the drop-down list, then click OK.

    That's it.

I'm just wondering if the 64-bit executable of BF4 is clashing with the latest PB files or something. I'll report back with any crashes that happen after trying this change.
