I've played for a while on both Dx12 and Dx11 in the past without issues. The crashing would happen on both. After much debugging, it appears that the issue was somehow linked to my RAM. I noticed that the game would crash when RAM usage hit 8gb, and I have 16gb of RAM. It's likely that Battlefield 1 is the only game I own that will push my RAM usage that high. I tried placing my RAM in new slots, and after doing so, for some reason Battlefield 1 has been using a lot less RAM (6gb as opposed to >8gb around the time it started crashing frequently). It's possible some windows process was eating up the extra memory. Since this, I have been having no issues playing the game.
Thank you for your response. Hopefully this post will help others facing the very odd symptoms that I was -- if your CPU and GPU temps are just fine, check your RAM usage and see if it crashes at a specific amount.
