Thanks, that's certainly odd. If you haven't done so already can you try manually closing the game down by using Close Application. 

I can't think of why this would be misbehaving after working fine initially, but perhaps there's something weird with the local saved/suspended data, and resetting it be restarting the game may help. 

You can also try restarting the system from the power menu. I doubt it'll help, but it's quick and easy to try.
