Re: Battlefield 3 Microsoft Visual 3 C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable Setup

Well, one of the links is for SP1 and one is for SP2, you won't need both...

If you have a failed install, it could be corrupted...

You can Go to Control Panel > Software > Uninstall Software

Uninstall anything that say Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable

(ONLY 2010 and ONLY x86)

Then reinstall

(Check to see if you have SP1 or SP2, if you don't know how, tell me what OS you are on)

**************************

Edited to add, I went searching and here's some additional info for you

 Cause

During the instalation of Battlefield 3, the VC++ 2010 install package was corrupted or not not moved properly to the Battlefield 3 directory. This results in the 1603 error, as Origin cannot open the package.
The Fix

Fixing the 1603 error is a simple matter of replacing the corrupted package with the good package.

1. Download the VC++ 2010 Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Website.

2. Open up My Computer, then click on Local Disc (C:), then Program Files (x86), then Origin Games, then Battlefield 3, then _Installer, then vc, then vc2008sp1 then redist.

3. Place the downloaded file from step 1 into the redist directory you are in. If you are asked to replace an existing file, say 'Yes'.

4. Open Origin and install Battlefield 3.
It Didn't Work!

After following the above steps without success, try the following:

1. Restart your computer. Restarting does wonders for a computer as closing Windows gives it a chance to sort everything out.

2. Uninstall the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable" then install it again from the Microsoft Website.

    Hello MLadyD7,

    I'm not sure the U.S. Government can even sort this one out!

    I tried to uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable and I got an error message saying;

    The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2203.

    When I click on OK it will not uninstall.

    Anyway I then tried out the instructions you gave me. I downloaded the VC++ 2010 Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Web-site and actually deleted the file in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 3\__Installer\vc\vc2008sp1\redist\ directory and added the newly downloaded file there.

    I tried to install Battlefield 3 again and got the same error message;

    Error: The VC++ runtime distributable package was not installed successfully. Setup cannot continue. (5100).

    I then restarted my PC and tried to uninstall the VC++ 2010 x86 Redistributable but again got the same error message as above; The installer has encountered an unexpected error...

    Any suggestions?

    The steps that Mlady has given should have resolved this. After numerous searches on the problem it seems this is the most common fix, but in your case there may be a little more to the problem if it is not helping.

    If ever a file like this cannot install, it can sometimes be down to a corruption in windows, or going down the simpler path: windows is not fully up to date. Please run windows update to see if there are any important updates available to download. If there are, download these and reboot the system. Once rebooted try to install BF3 again

    If this does not help you may need to run a System file check. This will check the system for any corruption and repair the problem which will hopefully allow you to download BF3. This article will guide you through how to use the system file check tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Rick,

    Thanks for your message. I ran Windows Update and it told me I had all the necessary updates and there were no new updates for my system.

    I did as you said and ran the command prompt as an administrator and then ran the system file checker. I got the message below;

    Verifcation 100% complete.

    Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

    I just don't know what else I can do to get Battlefield 3 to install on my machine because I've pretty much tried everything everyone has told me to do.

    I'll have to try contacting EA directly and get a refund for my purchase.

    Best regards.

    Thanks but how do I do that? It is a specialist forum topic?

    Please advise.

    Many thanks.

    Error code 2203 basically pops up when the user does not have sufficient permissions to install the program to the folder that contains the installation point or the temp folder. Make sure that you are logged in as an Administrator to install the programs on the computer.

    Superb game and excellent game play.
