Re: Battlelog website absolutely refuses to work.

Well, that was utterly boring as in I can't finde anything wrong. I'm kinda lost to be honest since I can't have the computer in front of me. Have you done all the things I listed with no result at all?

I guess the next thing I would like to see is a video of the problem occouring although I don't quite know what I'm going to use it to yet.

I understand why this problem bugs you so much 😛

Just so you can see exactly what's going on from my perspective, I recorded myself doing a clean install of the web plugin and verifying that it was indeed installed through Chrome then attempting to launch BF3, to no avail.

You can find the recording at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gpAhbTAfng

(also, it should be noted that it also has the same effect across all browsers, with none of them launching BF3)

This is very puzzling to me I must admit. However, 15 plugins for Chrome is quite a lot, Have you tried disabling all plugins + extensions in Chrome, also all processes in the process bar, then restarting Chrome, then start up Chrome again and check they are all disabled, and then trying to go around Origin and go directly to http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/ and check if it works.

Please accept solutions if they are correct and press the XP button if somebody helped you.

Please tell me, do you have any Anti-virus and/or anti-spyware program(s) and version (not only "Avast")
Are you using a software firewall besides your anti-virus program? If so, what firewall and version?
Are you connected to internet through a router? If yes, please tell us brand, model and version.
List active addons you use in your browser(s)

Also, try to test websocket connections in Chrome etc.
    1. Go to http://websocket.org/echo.html [websocket.org]
    2. Click on Connect. Do you get a line saying CONNECTED in the Log window?
    3. Click on Send. Do you get SENT and RESPONSE lines in the Log window?
    4. Use secure WebSocket (TLS) and try 2 and 3 again. Different result?

Please accept solutions if they are correct and press the XP button if somebody helped you.

Oh also, have you changed your hosts file by any chance?

I don't use any anti-virus software actively running in the background (although I do use Malwarebytes in Safe Mode on a regular basis) and have no other software firewalls installed. Also, I'm connecting through a D-LINK DIR-655 router (hardware version B1, firmware version 2.00NA) and have no add-ons running in any browser.

The responses also came back positive on websocket, both normally and via TLS.

Additionally, I have downloaded a custom hosts file to block many unwanted spam sites. I will try restoring my backup hosts file (which remains unchanged in the slightest) and seeing if that works.

Lo and behold, changing the hosts file worked! I can open the game with absolutely no problem now (and might I say, from the little that I've played of it, it's beautiful so far). However, as one last question, what entry should I delete in my custom hosts file? I love the little thing, but not if it prevents me from playing games like this. 😕mileytongue:

Thank you again for all your help!

It's been my pleasure 🙂 Now, I don't know which entries you have or the deeper workings of the Battlelog coding but I do know that Battlelog uses some kind of link tracking from ru4.com - it might be that.

After restoring the custom hosts file and commenting out all references to the ru4.com domain, it now works like a charm! Just out of curiosity, in your experience with troubleshooting, has anyone else had the problem I was experiencing with BF3, with the hosts file being the culprit?

No havn't seen this problem before. However, I figured that only so many things can highjack browser links 🙂
