Those shortcut kits only seem to unlock the weapons but not their attatchments. If this is true then indeed those kits have little value because it's not that difficult to unlock weapons by playing, except the vehicle unlocks perhaps.
Assault, Support and Recon can accumualte a lot of points quickly by healing with health kids, reviving, sharing ammo or spotting with T-UGS or the MAV on Op Metro 64 players.
